People can possibly have two types of pain.

1. Gas pain which is from the anesthesia and some do not get rid of it for a good week.

2. You may have port pain in which mine lasted 6 weeks as it was needing the time to heal and scar tissue to form.

It all is temporary so there shouldn't be anything else to worry about.

my pain wasn't bad at all. i had moments where pain was a little more , but most pain was from sudden movements, bending or trying to pick something up that I shouldn't. my port is still a little bit sore (just a tiny bit) and i am 2 weeks out from surgery. my biggest issue wasn't pain, it was fatigue. i was so exhausted all the time, and still am much more tired than normal, but little by little im getting my stamina back. Just remember that everyone heals at different rates, has different pain tolerances. it definitly was not bad at all.

i wish u lost of luck!

I had almost no pain. Seriously; only took 1 mg of morphine post op (way less than I could have had), removed the Q ball (thing with pain killer in it that washes your insides) the MINUTE i got home. Slept on my left (port) side 1st nigte, on my stomach from 2nd on (in my own bed) and took only tylenol (liquid a time or two and then regular). The gas (good surgeons remove most of it) gave me minor pain...mostly referred pain from my diaphragm, when I walked a lot (and started breathing more deeply) and when that happened my husband could rub my neck and the pain would disappear immediately. Honestly I've felt worse longer from having bronchitis. Never nauseated for an instant, either.

My pain was very minimal also. Day 2-3 was the worst and even then I only took tylenol.

My port area is still sore (Im 11 days post-op). I have 3 boys and I was doing my normal Mom stuff just 3-4 days after surgery, like I had never had it:tongue:

Hello - I was in a lot of pain - Gas was really bad in my tummy however it never made it up to my shoulders. I was in so much pain the first 5 days I was just a big mess!!

On day 6 I felt a bit better and on day 9 I was over the gas pains and my port area hardly hurt at all. I'm now on day 12 and am well enough to go back to work and drive the car, walk the dog, clean the house.... So I'm feeling pretty good right now.

Everybody is different just remember each day gets better!

YES - I did have both surgery at the same time - I was told by my doc that you really don't have any more pain and you don't need any extra healing time added to your lap band surgery. I'm doing great now. I'm on day 12

Reading the posts you talk about port pain. Does this sound like it? I am 10 days out of surgery and the port side of my abdomen is terrible when I move enough to use the muscle there it burns like fire and tightens up. It's so bad that I can hardly get in and out of bed. When I went for my week check-up the NP told me that it was probably where they had stitched my port to my muscle but she said that only one other person had ever complained of such pain and could give me no indication when it would go away.

You may have that pain up to 6 weeks until you are recovered. You will be fine, trust me. Any time you need to get up from sitting or laying down, hold your stomach and then get up. That helps alot. You will be fine.

I will admit that the pain from my 1st surgery was worst then I thought, I think I had underplayed the pain in my head. Bending, wearing a belt, pants all presented problems I hadnt counted on. Thankfully I have a job that I can go to dressed like a bum. Lasted about a week.

The second surgery (a new port) was less painful from a body standpoint but way worse in terms of gas. Also lasted about a week.

Dennis,

May I ask why you had to have a new port ? How long did the first one last and congratulations on your success. Sets an example for me....

Hello! I didn't have much pain at all. I didn't even really use the pain meds except when I strained myself too hard. I had surgery on Weds and on Friday I cleaned all the carpets in my house (About 2200 sqft)

The only discomfort I had was getting up from the laying down position... obviously because it uses so many stomach muscles. I returned to work on the following Monday.

Just felt like really sore muscles.. Nothing special. I was out of it most of day of my surgery. No I didn't feel like passing out. Getting up and walking the first time was only hard because I was so stiff from being in the same position so long before getting up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
