Misconception.....

Recommended Posts

Anyone identified that they have a really messed up thought in their head that they are actually gonna wake up skinny right after the surgery? I know that sounds weird but I am so excited about the day and think I am confused and think that the actual surgery is going to instantaneously make me thin.

Not quite to that extent but I do try to imagine what it would/will be like not to have a big belly or be flabby in certian areas. I've always been big teh lightest I've been in my adult life was 184 in basic training when I was 18 and one of my instructors still called me fatboy. A few years ago I was down to 220 and felt pretty good about myself and hope to get below that.

I think we all get this image once in a while where we see ourselves thin very quickly.

Actually, just the opposite for me...I'm trying to work on practicing patience. I'm trying to prepare myself for "Bandster Hell"...you get the surgery and then there's a long period where you're starving the restriction comes and goes with fills and it's really all up to you to 'diet' again until you get to the Sweet Spot (many people gain weight during this period). I'm preparing myself for the fact that I probably won't have good restriction until the holidays, maybe shorter, maybe longer (I've seen some that took a year to get there). Hang in there...we'll all get to that skinny image.

I can see that because I am planning a vacation in late november/early december in anticipation of my impending hotness lol

I am working toward practicing patience myself. I have a friend who is banded (but doesnt know i am going to be lol) that actually gained about 20lbs during her post op diet ....that makes me nervous. I have been working really hard to make wise choices and I think that the work will pay off before my band is working full force.

I always think about when I will be skinny and some days I know in my head I have this idea its just gonna melt off but then somehow reality smacks me and I go O yeah this is gonna be work, but work that WILL pay off. Dreaming is good that will help you stay on track when you want to eat that piece of chocolate cake just dream of your skinnyness....lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
