My husband had his surgery yesterday and he is very sore and in pain. They kept him over night. He got sick after they told him to sat up on the side of the bed and when they did he got really sick and started throwing up and trying to anyway. Since there was nothing in him to begin with. At the beginning of the surgery they will give you a shot of medication of blood thinners. Well, when he tried to throw up because of the medicine he started bleeding out his surgery sites which are about 4 or 5 different sites and his blood pressure got low. Let's just so I was very scary time for me and for him. He is home now and is in alot of pain hopefully all of this will be worth it. I pray to God so. My husband goes by the name on here I believe toolman. He wishes all of you the best...

Hopefully my surgery date will be in June.

All my test, and classes are done- now I am just waiting final insurance approval. It was approved already, pending all the test results. My surgeon (Dr. Bagnato) says they can schedule surgery a week after approval.

This waiting makes me a wreck!

I am ready NOW!!! LOL Can you say IMPATIENT?

You ask toolmaker a question. I am going to try to help him. I am his wife and he is very sore and would not be able to sat here on the computer. Don't burn yourself out to fast and that sounds like what you are doing. I would eat something tomorrow. Remember when surgery time comes liquid is all you have. Enjoy yourself before surgery like he did and he was ready to go June 1. The day of his surgery, a couple of hours after surgery they gave him chicken broth, grape juice, 2 oz of Jello and Water. You want just be on Protein Drinks along. Just remember about two hours after surgery they want you to walk, walk, walk!!!! You should also have a machine they have gave you to blow in on to get your lungs ready for surgery. You need to be using that now. It helps to make your lungs stronger and helps prevent pneumonia. They will put a tube down your throat the day of your surgery so it helps with the mucus part as well. You need to be doing that at least 4 to 6 times a day 10 times each. You will be able to do this. If you have anymore questions please fill free to let us know and I will try to help you the best way I can. Good luck!

I hear ya on the "No food left behind". My surgery date is June 19th. I'm just waiting on my medical clearance, so I'm nervous eating. I think once I get the call that I'm mediacally clear, I will settle down and do what I have to do. Good luck to you.

It has been a long process, too long, to get here. My first surgery consult with Nov 4 2008...

I am ready.

June 1 bander reporting in!! I survived..lol. Things are good. I had to stay overnight because my hospital has a new rule that anybody with sleep apnea must stay. Outside of the little bit of stress of figuring out how I was going to get home (my daughter couldn't stay because she was flying out to Houston for plastic surgery), I'm glad that they kept me in because I was going to be home alone anyway with three dogs. Only was given Water on Monday with no problem. I think I only had two doses of pain meds in hospital and two doses of anti-nausea med. Everything I got up to go to bathroom I would get nauseous but they said that was just from the anesthesia. I took two doses of pain meds yesterday but really probably could have done without but felt like I needed to be knocked out to rest. Getting Jello, broth and Protein Drink down but I only do an ounce at a time. Absolutely no inflation gas pain. Dr. has a procedure where he sucks as much back out as he can. Even took a walk around the block today. I will say the first attempt at jello was a little scary when it wanted to come back up but it was kind of like a little dry-heave and a big belch and then it was all good.

so for me everything is good. Hope all June 1 and June2 and now June 3 banders are doing good. I will say there was a bypass patient in the room with me. Boy what a difference in recovery and pain. She was on a morphine pump.

I'm on day eight. Day two and three were my worst so far. I leveled out after that. I made sure I took plenty of Protein. That helped.

JulieM, I am scheduled for June 10th also. I only have to do two days of clear liquid 48 hours prior to surgery, so Monday and Tuesday will be yucky, but exciting. I am getting a little nervous, how about you. The only thing that scares me is being put to sleep. I am not worried about the pain or being able to eat or anything like that.

I won't have access to a computer until I come back to work, but I will let you all know how it went when I come back on the 16th of June.

I got Protein Powder from the gym and added 1/4 cup of tofu. Mixed with ice and Water in blender. Makes a great creamy shake with lots of Protein.< /p>

You are not in control of that. You have to put your faith in your surgens. Know that they are skilled and professional. Of course I'm telling myself this as much as I'm telling you ). I'm worried how I'm never going to have beer or sodas again.!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
