congrats on your success with not smoking! I quit about 5 years ago and have never looked back. I am hoping the lapband turns out to be just as good of a decision!

Yes congrats on the quitting smoking! I've been smoke free for three months now and I just now feel like I can breath so much easier. I also seem to sleep a lot better too. Finally stopped hacking crap up:ack2: (TMI I know..)

For all of you looking for good Protein shakes, try Isopure. There's actually an add for it over on the right of the page a lot. It's the best quality Protein and is very very low fat and carb. I think with a little added sweetener and even some various extracts, it tastes great. You don't even need to blend it, it mixes fine with a spoon. Just a thought. Good luck on the preop diets everyone I'm struggling, but getting it done without cheating, so far

I'm on the 3rd day of the pre-op diet. Mine doesn't seem to allow any fruits - only 2 cups of veggies. I made some artichokes and have been eating one a day, dipping the leaves in fat free dressing. Does anyone have any other veggie suggestions?

Wow...it's been a long road for you! Once you get "the date", time really seems to fly! I need to start stocking up on supplies here at home so I will be ready. I got my Magic Bullet this past weekend and also a new blender. I have to choose my Protein drink that I am going to start with and see how it goes. I should start experimenting with Protein drinks to get an idea of what tastes good to me.

I remember when I was doing a VLC program through UCLA and we were pretty creative with flavors. Pick a few extracts... vanilla, orange, coconut, etc. A little orange in a vanilla shake makes a nice 50/50 flavor and the coconut gives a little pina colada taste. There are few others, I just can't think of them right now. Also, if you haven't already, check out the youtube community. They have great ideas and recommendations.

GOOD LUCK

Hey, I am trying to limit my intake to shakes, veggies an fruit. I am not doctor ordered to do this, so it is my own idea, I started out on just liquids but went with additions and just keep cals low for me. But if veggies are okay per your docs instruction, try some wonderful steamed asparagus, cabbage and sauteed spinach. You may or may not feel like you can add the fatfree dressing to them, but I like them that way. Also, i love microwaved baby carrots. And lets not forget delicious raw veggies. Good luck to you. Mine is scheduled June 19.

Saw surgeon yesterday, with approval, plan is mid June. Surgeon gave me a pre-op diet but not a liquid diet thank goodness!!! He said he found most do not follow the liquid diet anyway so he does an extremely low carb diet and it does the same thing. Told me it wouldn't hurt to start it right away so I decided why not. I am headed to the grocery store this afternoon for the pre-op diet foods and keeping the cell phone by my side for the final insurance approval call...fingers are crossed!

tdtucker, your doctor is very similar to my daughter's doctor. His comment to her was "You've done so well with dieting, why impose one that you won't stick to." she even went and ate mexican food the day before. I really think it also has to do with the experience of the doctor. My doctors don't do a lot of bands (bypass mostly). My daughter's doctor has done 4,000+. so I'm on day 10 and have adhered mostly, about 90 percent to ordered diet. But I also don't want to go into surgery feeling weak, which I haven't so far felt that way, because I know food intake is limited again on the other side of the surgery. So I get Soup and FF yogurt and V8 juice also. So outside of my "slip" one day, it's been not too bad.

Good luck to all!!

Trisha

Well, I'm down to the wire.... 1 week from today! My program has be on a low fat diet until next Tuesday night, then Clear Liquids up until surgery. Everyday is a new emotion for me; one day I'm excited the next I'm asking myself why are you doing this? I've done the research, spent hours reading posts, etc. I know that this is going to be the right choice for me, but I'll be glad when next Thursday is behind me!

Best of Luck to everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
