Surgery Date is 4/15 - Bring on the restriction, Baby!

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled to be banded on 4/15! Looking forward to starting that yummy pre-surgical diet . . . hmmm, maybe not. I'd rather chew on my shoe than eat a dry chicken breast so I'm making friends with Protein shakes.

I've gone through a lot of back-and-forth thinking about the surgery, researching and questioning everything, weighing all the pros and cons. Could gastric bypass be a better choice because I’ll lose weight faster and, as an added bonus, explode if I eat too much sugar (apparently an excellent deterrent to eating a dozen donuts for breakfast)? And what will that little alien plastic thingy be doing to my stomach when I’m not looking? All the noise aside, I’m feeling very confident about my decision, very hopeful about my future, and motivated to change. Wish me luck!

I have not yet gotten a date but was told sometime in April as well. I am feeling the same exact way!!! I have always been one of those people that weird things happen to REALLY ALL THE TIME! My family & friends make fun of me because of it..... if it's gonna happen... it'll happen to me. Therefore, I am really nervous about having a foreign OBJECT in my body and hope it goes ok, cause i sure need a change in my life.... serious change!

Hey MJ! My doc gave me some good feedback on the foreign object issue. There are lots of things and medical devices that people have in their bodies to improve their health (and make their boobs bigger). Titanium hips, pacemakers, cheek/chin implants, all kinds of stuff. It didn't seem creepy when I thought of it that way. I think of it as a little Gucci belt that's going to help me to look marvelous.

I have plenty thoughts, I do my real research through books and My Doctor and his partners bio, as well as my weight loss center. I am a nurse and I often tell my patients please do not use the internet as a reliable source of info, so I try to practice what I preach. I joined one group and that's this one. To much info can be dangerous and the people at your weight loss center should be the number one source of unbiased information.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
