Aloha Just Banded Yesterday, no fooling

Recommended Posts

Hello I thought I would finally introduce my self here. I started the bariatric program through Kaiser in Honolulu in September 2008 and I was just banded on April 1st (Yesterday). Kaiser does bands as out-patient. Went in at 7:30 and I was home by 3:30. I vomited in the car as a reaction to all the pain meds and anesthesia they gave me. Right now I am very sore and I cannot tell the difference between the pain from the gas, the incisions in my abdomen, or feeling full from drinking too much liquids at one time. Right now I am just trying to rest and walk out the gas as much as possible. I also burp a lot but I am not sure if that is from just drinking something or the gas escaping?

Hey Mis, mine will eventually be done as outpatient as well but it still requires an over night stay, they should of kept you in there especially as you vomitted, I was told you have to tell the nurses if your going to be sick as because it's just been put in it can't rub so they need to give you anti nausea medication. As for drinking too much, try drinking from a shot glass (but not doing shots lol) around the half way mark is the best and have that every 20-30 minutes. Good luck.

Aloha misamae,

I'm a Hawaii bandster too. Was banded 14 months ago on Oahu. Good luck with your journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
