Swollen ankles

Recommended Posts

I have always had edema in my ankles off and on. However, when I started the pre-op diet it went away completely!

I was loving my skinny ankles.:smile2:

But....now that I'm on mushy food - they are back with a vengence. :)

Please...does anybody know what I can do?

I am limiting my sodium - (I track it on dailyplate)

I have increased my Water.< /p>

It seems odd - maybe I should return to liquids for the rest of my life? LOL - I sure did enjoy admiring my tiny ankles! LOL

How MUCH sodium are you getting each day?

I've had the same problem and for me it's definitely sodium. I just had a fill yesterday and am on thick liquids now. Even though I'm having low sodium Soup, my hands and feet are balloons. I have to really bump up my Water. Also, when I was pregnant I had this problem My doctor had me lay on my sides (especially the left) and keep my feet elevated. This helped my body to release the fluids. I know how uncomfortable it can be so I'm wishing you all the best in figuring a fix quickly!!

I'm having the same issue, before banding I only had problems if I went way overboard with sodium but since banding it seems I've become super sensitive to it and I swell up if I go anywhere near the 100% mark on the daily plate, I try to keep it under 60% yet I still get puffy, I'd love to know what to do about it.

My sodium intake yesterday was 1,336.

I try to stay under 1,500.

If you keep your sodium consistently that low, and are still swelling, see your PCP. That isn't right! You may have something else going on that needs to be addressed...and can be easily if you catch it! (not a doc, ok? But you shouldn't be swelling like that) UNLESS you're on your feet all day.

Good luck!

I am on my feet all day (I'm a teacher) and prior to surgery I had all kinds of tests - all normal.

This may be TMI - but I'm just getting to the end of my cycle and it looks like the swelling may be going down a little. This was my first one since banding and today is day 7! So perhaps my hormones are out of whack.

Yeah if you stand all day that can explain it...even thin people have issues when they are on their feet like that.

If it keeps bothering you, try some jobst stockings and they should help! :scared2:

When I was in my early 20's and had my son I suffered from Toxemia---and had severe edema. Ever since then I have suffered swollen ankles.. here are some tips.

1) If you are really overweight and you suffer from this, your cells and skin 'stretch out' -- it is like they 'remember'. So the edema will come and go.

2) Taking a Water (prescription level) can help

3) Get your cholesterol and BP checked as it can be a sign of heart disease.

4) You may have to sleep with your legs elevated (above your heart) when your ankles are really bad.

5) Keep the salt low, drink a lot of water (clear pee is good)

6) As you lose large amounts of wt, your edema will improve and your skin and cells will shrink.

Other than that..it just plain sucks.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
