Starting to investigate plastic surgery

Recommended Posts

OK Cannucks,

I'm starting to investigate plastic surgeons - I'm still paying off the band, and still have weight to lose, but I figure I may as well start the investigations now. So, is there any plastic (not cosmetic) surgeon in southern Ontario (To - Windsor corridor) that you would recommend for a Tummy Tuck?

I would be interested in some recommendations too - although, I am interested in a cosmetic surgeon.

Even though I absolutely need a Tummy Tuck (oh goodness, also butt lift, everything!)...the thing that I want most is a facelift.

The saggy skin on my face, to me, looks worse and makes me look older.

I can't put a girdle on my face, and they don't make Spanx for chins yet.

I was banded at SWLC in Mississauga. They also offer plastic surgery, and seem to specialize in some of the body contouring stuff like Tummy Tucks. Dr Lista, the surgeon, came out to our support group in December, and did a dynamite presentation to all of us banders, showing us before and after picks of many people(no faces, of course!!!). I would recommend checking them out...it's where I would like to have the surgery done once I have lost my weight.

Guess the place to start is the Royal College of Surgeons and Pysicians. I understand there is a difference in the specialization of plastic surgeon and cosmetic surgeon. I understand that a comsmetic surgeon anyone that is a surgeon can open up shop while the plastic surgeon has to have special training. That added with the rec's of others may be a good start.

I am very interested how anyone else starts researching and I am approaching my need to loose 50 lbs of loose skin. Yuk! but not for another year or so.

Thanks Doddie. Yes, there is a significant difference between cosmetic and plastic surgeons, and the college is the place to validate licensure. I am most interested to know if there are specific surgeons people would recommend for this procedure, and then I will check out their ratings and licences and complaints etc. Just wanted some suggestions before I open the yellow pages and start calling them all; like everything else, word of mouth can be a powerful tool.

I went to Dr. Frank Lista in Mississauga for my Tummy Tuck and am happy with my results. I will be going back to him to get my breast lift and augmentation done later this year as well. Word of mouth is for sure the best way. Not all plastic surgeons are used to working on people with huge weight losses. I'd not see a cosmetic surgeon either, plastic surgeon all the way.

I definitely will be getting a lower facelift within the next year to three years. I would love to know who people choose for this and definitely only go with a plastic surgeon who is well qualified for.

If it is the face I would go to someone who is an expert on faces... bodies and faces are different in my head....

George Bell is supposed to be the best as per a Dr I used to date.

I would use Sammy in a heartbeat for any body work but I would investigate the face specialists.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
