Does anyone know if their doctor puts the band in empty then goes in later to fill? Is this normal or does it depend on the doctor?

Mine just had some "primer" in it (think of the tubing...if you didn't have enough saline, instead of filling the band it would just fill the tubing!) but my doc put it this way "You just had some primer. It doesn't count" when I asked him. Some DO load the pt (I think that's almost mean LOL) with a little...I think...but not my doc.

I think it depends on the person. My sister and I both used the same Dr. She had a empty band and mine had 2cc in it.

My surgeon put 2 cc's in mine on surgery day. I didn't even know it until I went for you first fill. Didn't have any restriction after surgery. Take care. Becky

Mine was supposed to be empty, turns out it had a tiny amount (0.6cc). My doc said it its better to start out empty so that the stomach wall can heal where the space the stitches. Even though I had essentially no fill my food portions were down considerably and I lost between .2 and .6 lbs per day.

I went in a few days ago for the first fill. He tried to take me to 3.6cc but I couldn’t get the Water to go down so he backed me off to 3.0cc and I feel great. I have cut my 400-500 calorie meals (3 meals a day) down to 300-400 and have not felt hungry between meals. I do feel as though I need to be a lot more conscious of chewing now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
