Fighting Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else try to fight the lap band? :cool2: I know that sounds very lame ... but I sometimes find myself doing that!!! STUPID ... I KNOW. :smile2:

When I first got the lapband, I stuck to the program. I was motivated by results. The weight came off, slow, but it was consistent. Then I hit a plateau, that seemed to go on forever (more than 8 months). I went for fill after fill, and when I did get restriction, I still did not lose. Instead of turning to our nutritionist, or upping my exercise, I eventually ate around the band. I think I was using it to cope. Dipping my pizza in oil, or anything in oil, making candy bars a MEAL! You get the idea. STUPID STUPID STUPID. :)

I think the food addiction is stronger than I realized, but I've decided to STOP!!! I promise.

I've been planning my daily intake the night before, or the morning off, depending on my time. I just pull out a small notebook and jot it down. I am finding that if I plan, and IF I don't let myself get too hungry.

And learning to deal with life without turning to food is the real challenge. Going to go search the boards for more on that.

I'm done whining.

I am going through the same type of problem. I was banded 10-08-08 and lost 50 lbs by Feb. It has been over 6 weeks since I lost a lb. I am eating aroung the band. I am eating huge amounts of ice cream nearly everyday, Cookies and chips. I have quite a bit of restriction, not too much but I think enough. I am choosing the foods that I can eat plenty of. I know that I am doing this to myself. Everynight I go to bed in tears saying that I am going back to the way I was after the band in the morning. Then I wake up stupid again. I think I need some professional help. If anyone had advise I would be very grateful.

Karen

Not to sound condescending, but have you all thought of seeing a psychologist for help? I KNOW I'm a food addict and a horrible emotional eater:w00t:. I started seeing a psychologist and he has helped some:thumbup:, but I still have a ways to go!

Good luck to you!

You've got the idea. I'm so loose at the moment I even can eat pancakes at Breakfast time. But I know for me now, maintaining, the answer is not getting tighter and tighter. I've become quite adept at eating round the band if I want to.

The answer is to plan, to prepare, to stick to my plan and to meet every challenge where I want to turn to food head on. Today, tomorrow and every day for the rest of my life. I am not perfect every day. Sometimes I fail utterly. So do "naturally thin" people. It doesnt matter as long as it doesnt happe too often.

And by continuing to exercise, no matter what, whether I've eaten well, badly or inbetween, my weight has remained absolutely steadily through days of great eating and days of eating entire packets of Cookies.

This is why we need our bands FOREVER.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
