Can anyone tell me what a PB is?

Recommended Posts

I know it has something to do with burping i think...my issue is i dont know how to burp. I know when i am eating to fast is i get hiccups. Is this bad?

Any clarification on the acronyms would help. :smile2:

i read here a long time ago, where someone compared a PB to an orgasm....you KNOW when it happens. :smile2:

anyway - i've only pb'd twice ... it's not really a burp, because what you tried to eat that's stuck comes right back up and fast, no air involved.

hiccups and my nose running are my indicators to slow down or that i'm done. odd - but it's just what i have learned over time.

A hiccup might not be your signal.....If you eat more than you can fit into your pouch, it will sit in your esophagus, you will start producing LOTS of saliva (called "sliming") and it will just slide back out...the problem is it will happen when and where it chooses..... My best friend PB'd at dinner on a cruise and it happened before she even knew it, no signal of any sort. Just slimed and then up it came right onto the dinner table with 6 other of our friends. You need to pay attention to your body and learn to recognize "full" when you get there. I've heard a few people say they knew better than to eat one more bite but they did it anyway, and PB'd.

It is the same as regurgitation. Your bringing something back up that hasn't been digest or even started the process of digestion....therfore you don't have any acid with it, if you had acid with it and it had started being digested you would just call it puking/vomitting.

I have to giggle at the the hiccups cuz that's when I know I'm full.:smile2:

thankfully, I haven't PB'd or gotten stuck yet (knock on wood) I've seen my hubby get stuck once and PB a time or two, not fun.

Ahhhh, I misunderstood the question. You didn't want to know what it "is" you wanted to know "what the initials stood for".

I have seen this same exact question, not less then 10 times in 10 weeks now....obviously we need a better frequently asked questions section to help people figure some of this out. PB is a classic, I don't think anyone could figure out what it stood for without asking.

If you click FAQ under the before/after pics at the top of the page, you'll see a link for Lap-band Abbreviations. That will take you to a page with Lapband-specific forum abbreviations. You'll find most of the important ones there, including PB.:smile2:

Your first instinct when a stuck episode happens is to drink Water and force it down.

For most people this is the worst thing you can do, because the water will fill up your pouch instantly and you will barf....you want to try and avoid that as it can cause slips.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
