Pureed foods...help!!!

Recommended Posts

I am on purees for two weeks now and I am lost! It sounds like purees aren't mushies but they aren't liquids either! It says everything I eat has to be put in the blender or the food processor until it is applesauce-like consistency!

I need recipes!! HELP!!!!

well my ideas for this stage are chicken and dupmplings, ravioli, beef stew, meat loaf, speghetti or how about ground turkey with taco sasoning, tuna salad, chicken salad, hummus..... If you can throw it in a blender it can be pureed.

You might need to add Water to get the consistency you need and I'm sure you can create health versions of these.

Good luck.

Also, it may not look pretty but it will taste like heaven, especially coming from the liquid stage.

Thanks for the great ideas. It is so hard because I seriously am someone who uses my eyes when I eat.

Maybe you can explain this to me. I don't get what the difference is between eating pureed stuff and taking tiny bites and chewing really well. What is the difference?

There probably is not a difference in mushies and chewing really well but for our protection and for those who don't follow rules food stages were created. Have fun with your food ideas and your blender and you will feel good knowing that you played it safe.

I recommend making meat and vegetable stock and keep it on hand. Canned is okay, but it's high in salt. Then when you need to thin out your puree mixtures, the stock will help with taste.

Spaghetti sauce in the blender with ricotta cheese is pretty good if you like Italian. I was partial to butternut squash. Refried Beans with stock, a little salsa and low fat sour cream is good too!!! I LOVE avocados. They were always easy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
