Julia of AZ 0 Posted April 2, 2009 How many calories should I be eating? I have not lost but 2 lbs in almost 2 months. I am only eating about 7 to 8 hundred calories a day. Help! Julia
janesays 2 Posted April 2, 2009 i would say try eating a few more calories-- somewhere around 1000 or 1100 may be right for your body size to lose. if you don't get in enough calories, your body goes into "starvation mode" and conserves your fat calories, etc, so that you dont die. sometimes your body gets in a rut too, and your metabolism slows down, so any shift in your eating or routine should affect this. you may also want to try increasing your Water intake if you havent already, and increasing your Fiber if you aren't getting the daily recommended amount in. hope this helps! ive only had a few plateaus since my surgery a few months ago, but they never lasted for more than 1.5 weeks because i tried these things. HeatherO 7 Posted April 2, 2009 Janesays said everything. Your body does go into starvation mode with too few calories. I also stopped losing at 800-950 calories and had to go up to between 1000-1200 to get it moving again. I would definitely suggest increasing your caloric intake and either adding or changing the exercise routine to get the weight moving again.
bambam 0 Posted April 2, 2009 Same here. I'm only 3 weeks postop and I know this is a time for healing not focusing on weight loss, but my dietician recommended I increase my calories as well. I was eating 800-1000 calories a day. She told me to try to get closer to the 1200 mark, that I was putting my body in starvation mode. Never in my life have I been told I wasn't eating enough! Bambam, I see your surgery is one day behind mine. How did you lose 50 lbs in such short period of time? I lost around 16 on the pre-op diet then only 8 lbs since the surgery. I am almost one month post op. Right now the scale is not moving. I know I am probably in the banister hell time frame. But how did you do it? losing 50 lbs already, wow! By the way, I am eating around 800-950 calories each day. I have felt that I have been eating way too much than I should. But recently I got hungry two hours after Breakfast (usually two eggs) and got hungry again 3 hours after lunch and dinner (usually 4 OZ of fish, 3 OZ of tofu and 2 OZ vege each meal). janesays 2 Posted April 2, 2009 32 pounds since november is still very good! remember that! even if you are stalled right now, over 4 months that is an 8 pound loss each month, so an average of about 2 pounds a week! thats exactly where you want to be for healthy, easily sustainable weightloss. ~Bridgette~ 0 Posted April 7, 2009 I think my body has gone into starvation mode too b/c I've been at the same weight, give or take a pound or 3, for 3 months now... its very frustrating, and I'm ready to get that scale moving again!
