E-Food Journal

Recommended Posts

I would like to start tracking my calories and I am interested in useing an internet site to keep a food journal. I am really confused on where to start. Do any of you recommend one website over the others? Does it require a membership fee? I appreciate your input!

I use fitday.com, but a lot of people use dailyplate.com. I have also seen people talk about sparkpeople. I just use fitday, because I am familiar with it.

I use myfitnesspal.com and I love it! You can track your calories and your exercise. Like lap band talk there are sites and blogs and people helping one another.

I have used FitDay and the Daily Plate. I have found the database on the Daily Plate to be larger--that's what I use now! Any of them are good though.

Good luck!

I use Sparkpeople.com the most...I have joined up on myfitnesspal.com, but I like SP better. I'm angelgrlkas29 if you decide to join. They have recipes, blogs, webpages, forums to post in, nutrition trackers, exercise trackers, points, track any other kind of goal you want to, and it's all FREE!!!!!! So is myfitnesspal.com, but I've been on SP longer.

Hope this helps.

Dailyplate is what I use. Mainly because of the ease of use and the vast database of stuff in there already.

You can see what it look like for me, by going to the bottom of this post and clicking on the link that say's "What I eat daily"

I only use the free parts of it, as that is all I need. I use the bodybugg for the and manually enter the amount of calories I have burned each day.

Thank you everyone for the links and advice!

I tried daily plate 1st because it had the most recommendations... I am hooked! I've been doing it for 3 days now and already I am seeing calories I didn't expect! And I love the little pie chart that give me a graphic visual of my calorie break down. The best part of eating now is getting to log in everything :scared2:. It even had the breakdown to a locally made protien drink that I prefer. That really suprised me!

I am having much more restrictions than I was having before (no fill since August) and I think it is this spring weather. Being really tight is the easisest time for me to eat sweets, because they go down easy. Having to log that in makes me think twice... I then I don't eat the sweets (great accountablity). Thanks again for all your advice!

I exercise more now because I get to enter the amount of calories for the day I burned and see instantly the amount of defecit for the day I produced.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
