soar around the port area

Recommended Posts

I'm going on 3 weeks since the surgery and still experiencing some soarness/burning sensation around the port area. When I touch around the area I feel a burning sensation. Is anyone still experiencing this?

Yes I had the same thing and my Dr. said it is normal but if it turns red or feverish to call in and he would check it. You should also check with your Dr. But I questioned it about a weekago (my three week point) and tht is what I was told...

The port isn't just "set in"....it has been stitched pretty securely into place and it has to heal. I don't think it's at all unreasonable to still bw sore and/or tender at just three weeks. Give it another week or so and see. If you're really concerned about anything you should always call your doc, but I will say that many, many of us have still been tender or sore at three weeks out.

my doc said that you will have soreness and pain the most at the port site and it will last the longest. afterall they did a lot of work there and there is now a foriegn object in that area of your body.

i had surgery back in december and still get some discomfort around the port site. not nearly as tender as it was, but if i lay the wrong way...or bump that area it is still tender.

I agree, my port area was the last to heal. Every time I moved or coughed it pull on the stitches I think. So unless it looks infected it's normal to be sore for a few weeks. Mine took about 6-7 weeks before I didn't really feel it anymore.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
