Newbie, banded St. Patty's day 09! Is my weight loss normal?

Recommended Posts

It's officially been two weeks since I was banded and I was wondering if what I'm losing is normal. I've read your first month you lose the most but I've only gone down 9 pounds since the day of the surgery, I feel stuck . Anyone have that slow weight loss the first month? Thanks!

I haven’t had the surgery, but your weight loss sounds very good to me… and normal or above normal, I’d assume. The goal they gave us at my seminar is to lose 1-2 pounds a week and you’ve lost 4.5 pounds a week!

Hi, Anii!

There are a lot of us that were banded on St. Patty's Day, Welcome!

I went for my 2 week appt. yesterday and have lost 9 lb. also. The PA said that was great for 2 weeks. I had hoped I'd lost more but I'm happy with the loss of 9 lbs.

Don't be discouraged. Remember, if we'd had a more drastic bariatric surgery the weight would be dropping off of us much more quicky. I figure that because I chose not to do that, losing at a slower rate is the result. The more realistic our expectations are the better off we'll be in the long run.

We're doing just fine with a nine pound weight loss, Anii!

AliciaA122, great advice!

Thanks guys, I thought I was just weird. I think I'm just extremely impatient about it ha ha. But you're right I gotta keep reminding myself this is the healthiest way.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
