1RockinMom 0 Posted April 1, 2009 oh NOoo,,,,Better drink it all while you can, you're not supposed to have carbonated drinks after you are banded. I WAS a diet coke freak, but after being banded, i don't even miss it. Ive heard the horror stories from people drinking carbonated drinks and it isn't pretty. Causes major bloating and gas, and its not good for the new pouch. Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted!!:seeya:
gamyj 0 Posted April 1, 2009 hi bay, unfortunetly soda is not good for the band as it can stretch out ur pouch. they even say flat soda is not a good idea. i know some people do drink soda, but to work so hard for something to screw it up over soda is kinda silly. i wish u lots of luck amy
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted April 1, 2009 Honestly, probably not. I had to give up beer (and the very occasional glass of champagne!); many give up their beloved diet soda. It isn't good for your pouch and for some of us it is actually painful to drink carbonation. For me, I can sip, then burp burp burp for 5 minutes. not worth it. IF you let it go flat (yuck) then maybe...but it won't be the same. After you've had the band a year or two, though, it MAY change. But safest to assume it's one of the few things that will be off limits forever.
Rebecca09 0 Posted April 1, 2009 Drinking soda is not a good idea for all the aforementioned reasons. I loved diet coke before being banded. I would have several a day. After meeting with the surgeon and he told me "No soda!" I decided to wean myself off of it. I started looking for substitutes. Then I said I would NOT have soda during meals, only when at a bar with friends (I'm not a drinker) or at the movies. Now, 3 weeks after being banded and I rarely think about soda. Also, diet soda tends to have an appetite increasing effect on people...who needs that?!?! Good luck to you. I know you'll be able to give up things in order to achieve your desired results!
