Afraid to eat - Where's my pouch? How full is it?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was recently banded on 3/25/09, doing ok so far. My delima is where is my pouch? And how to I know I'm full. I don't want to eat too much because I dont wanna be sick.

Pardon but I don't understand the "where is my pouch" question...would you mind explaining what you mean?

As to the other, you don't need to worry yet since you're most likely still on liquids post op. As you heal and advance and follow the "rules" you'll figure out what it takes to make you "full" but not too full!

You'll feel everything in your chest pretty much. Sometimes you will feel things and hear things from your chest all the way down to your tummy!

When my dr. gives me a fill, he'll show me the barium drink sitting on top of the band and ask me if I feel full. I explained what I felt, in my chest and he said that was it, that's what being full feels like. You will also feel tightness there when you are too tight or swollen, usually in the morning. The pouch is on the top part of your stomach, but the belly you have and where you 'used' to feel full, is not the pouch being full. You'll learn as you go what it feels like. Ask your Doc to show you with the flouro and the barium when you get your fill to give you an idea of what you should feel.

I am having the same problem, I was banded on the 27th and am on mushies now. However, I really don't ever feel full or hungry. I will hear a growl in my belly, but don't feel hungry. So, far I have just been living by the 4 ounce rule. I never eat iver 4 - 6 ounces at a time. It has seemed to work for me, as I have not gotten sick.

Everything should be pretty much going straight through the band, this time is about healing and having scar tissue form over ur stitures and ur band not so much weight loss or feelling full. that comes as you have your fills and you have solid food sitting in the pouch giving it a sense of fullness. I worried first time round the same thing, that something was wrong coz i wasnt instantly full.

Believe me if you remember to chew your solids and eat slowly you will feel yourself getting full once you are on solids. The foods you have in this first 5 or 6 weeks you will never really have much again because they will never keep you satisfied

good luck

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
