underwires & port placement

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I am proud of how I have been eating, I have been slacking on my excercise, but I am almost at a 40 pound loss. I went and bought new underwear, and a new bra. I had quit wearing underwire, but, with the loss the wire support feels better. But now, only 40 pounds down, my port is more noticable, and the underwire from my bra hits the top of it when I am sitting. I never could really feel the port before, but now I feel it all the time.

The only people I know to ask this personally are males, and well, even those with man boobs wouldn't have a clue.

So, has anyone had this problem? Anyone heard of this causing problems with the port? Making it move, or shift or flip or anything?

I know a wierd question.....but.....a question none the less!

Good luck to all.

Ask your surgeon if it will hurt the port (I doubt it but maybe?)

eventually you may need your port moved.

I have the same problem but I am large chested and I cannot go without an underwire. I will definetly ask my surgeon when I go back in at my 4 week apt. I am hoping some day to get a reduction so maybe I wont have this problem:)

I cant figure out why surgeons would place the port there - it's completely idiotic. It only has to be a few inches south and you have no problem. Mine is to the left, and only about 2 inches above my belly button and it doesnt get in the way of anything - waist bands are well below the navel and bra underwires well above where the port is.

If it doesnt bother you or hurt, I doubt its going to harm the port, but it it does hurt, you're probably going to have to move it at some stage.

However, sitting up straight helps - at a normal weight, when I sit straight, there's no "folding" of my stomach at all so the port doesnt get pushed up. Perhaps as you lose your stomach this will help. If I slump over and round my back then of course my port and rib cage come together.

When I was banded the first time it was to the left just above my belly button but when my band slipped and they had to replace it my doctor said they cannot put it in the same place due to scar tissue so they had to move it to the other side.

I do find myself sitting up straight alot more as to avoid the discomfort so I guess it is good in some sense.

I know what you are talking about!

Since June 07, I've not worn a bra. For the first week it was post op, to heal...but I found them uncomfortable.

When I go for long drives, I find myself adjusting my wasteband because it simply just hurts my port.

And my bra wasn't an underwire either.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
