Recommended Posts

Hi i am Chiqui.... I got banded nov 1, 2008.... its now a year and a half later and i have only lost 30 lbs... the reason???

well i have come to learn that i go against my lap band and i dont know why... it makes me very sad...

for instance... when i eat, after just a few bites i do get full and even if i have food still in my mouth, instead of spitting it out i will chew it until i can swallow it.... and i will eat everything eventhough i am stuffed... i dont know how to stop even when i am full!!!!

I have fought my insurance company to get this surgery, and now i am working against it!!!! i feel i need some help!!!!

any ideas??? :P

The lapband was made for people just like you....for real.

If you can eat and eat (and it's not coming back up) then you are not restricted enough to lose weight.

Some can get a tad of restriction and lose weight.

Some need more.

Others like me and you need the pipes cut off-almost.

But know you are not alone. Your doctor will be your best advocate. The guidelines for the band says if a patient is having a difficult time following eating less....an adjustment is in order. (I'm paraphrasing of course)

Get that adjustment.

I'd have to agree with lapbandtalker. It sounds like you definitely need a fill. I also do what you are doing sometimes. When I feel full I don't stop eating. I continue to eat. I'm slowly learning that I actually need to start getting away from the food after I feel full. Whether it's getting up from the table or giving my plate to my husband and telling him not to let me have anymore. I had my first fill almost 2 months ago now and it's helped a lot. I do still find myself eating even though I'm full though. I hope that you're able to get the help that you need and eventually you will just make up your mind that you are not going to keep sabotaging yourself.

You are not alone in this! I do the exact same thing sometimes. I've been canceling my fill appointments (the last three) because at the previous three fill appointments when they weighed me I GAINED. I canceled these last three because I was sick and tired of crying at the doctors office. For pitys sake. I was a mess for hours afterward.

I'm getting my poop in a group now and I have a fill appointment at the end of the month. I'm back on the bandwagon and I realize I probably need more fill. I already feel pretty tight, but I can eat more than I'm supposed to and it doesn't come back up. Not good.

I'm going to start sitting down to eat with a shaker of salt. When I've had my fill of food (appropriate amount) I'm going to salt the hell out of what is left. That way I know I won't eat it.

You're not alone! Don't give up! We can do this! =)

I'm sure that you'll groan when you hear this, but I've had SEVEN fills. None of them were less than 1cc and several were 2cc's. Remember that everyone is different, but if you aren't restricted you need to be honest with yourself and get to the dr! We wouldn't need the band if we could stick to just one cup of food on our own.

I've only recently gotten real restriction and I am soooooo thankful. I, too, was able to eat pretty much as much as I wanted as long as I didn't eat too quickly. Now it really doesn't matter...if I eat too much, I lose the extra. It took me a couple of weeks to make this stick in my head. After about two weeks of peeing all over myself as I heaved over and over again, I finally got the message (a little.) I still push things about twice a week trying to eat just one more bite because it tastes so good, or because there is so little on the plate.

I'm learning, and you will too. I'm finally losing, and you will to. :(

One thing i've had to learn is to take small portions otherwise I would end up clearing my plate because I couldn't waste food.< /p>

I bought two plates - one a relish plate - pretty crystial, 3 small portions and another a bright pink plastic plate also with 3 small portions - I agree making a small plate of food is better because you don't want to waste food.

I stepped up my walk - just quicker no longer. I have lost 3 lbs!!!!!

I would suggest another fill. When you're in the zone, you should be full. If you're not getting there, it's time for an adjustment. You should be full eating 4-5 oz of Protein at a meal. If not, fill time.......

I've had 3 fills within a month. the second fill gave me good restriction. Then I lost that feeling and went right back for another fill today. Got that restriction back again.......Feels good.

Good luck.....

I go to a support group located where I had my surgery. They tell you to buy a set of baby spoons and forks!! They make you take much smaller bites so it takes you longer to eat your portions! It is also very important to weigh your food out and put the rest away! For instance my doctor says not to eat more than 4 ounces a meal focussing on Protein and try to stay at 900 cal. I have lost 66 pounds so far! It has been a slow constant weight lose for me so far. And if possible see if your area has a support groups and go to some of the meetings!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
