Did I make a mistake

Recommended Posts

I am 10 days post op and it was my first day back at work. My boss asked me to do something during my lunch break and I had to eat my lunch kinda fast ( 2oz mushie chicken and green beans). I returned home from work and again ate my food fast (2oz mushie chicken). I did not experience any pain or discomfort. I have learned my lesson. I do not want to damage my band. Could doing this cause damage to my band even though I did not feel any discomfort?

If you felt no discomfort, you are probably ok. However, when you get any restriction at all you will cause yourself MAJOR pain. So, take time and slow down. It doesn't take that long to eat at a reasonable rate.

Until you get your fill, you probably won't have any repercussions from eating too fast. You just won't be as satisfied from your food. Don't make a habit of it, though. As the previous poster said, you will hurt yourself once you have restriction.

I just think you're lucky you get mushies at 10 days! LOL

I got Clear Liquids week one, and then got to add in .... Protein shakes! (oh wow)

but no I agree with the others; if it didn't hurt and it was per your doc's dietary guidelines, then you're fine.

Thanks everyone for replying. I just do not want anything to mess up my band. I see this surgery is a great blessing and my last chance to make things right.

I agree with the others. Once you get restriction, you really can't eat fast. I keep a Soup At Hand at work just in case there is a time when I can't eat as slowly as I need to. I know soup is not something I'm supposed to have often, and it doesn't fill me for as long, but..... Good luck to you. You are so right about this surgery being a blessing. Take care!!! Becky

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
