Just got back from the Doctor. Lost 1/2 pound, damn this is frustrating. Anyway, I complained because I have not lost any weight in 12 weeks so he agreed to a 1 cc fill instead of the .5 cc that he normally does. I told him I can eat 1/2 grilled chicken breast, a cup of broccoli and a cup of carrots in one sitting. He says way too much so he agreed (after some pleading) to the 1 cc. Anyway, got the numbing medicine. Then he stuck the needle in for the fill and kept saying he could fill the port but could not hit it. He took the needle out and says "oh, so that explains it, the needle bent". I say "what". He says "it wasn't bent when I put it in, and you do have a lot of scar tissue (already knew that), but that is pretty impressive to be able to bend a needle this big that bad". I just kind of sighed and he got another one. In in 5 seconds and all was good. I just pray this works.

It did not hurt at all so don't be afraid. I was kind of embarressed, but I am not really even sure why. It's not like I choose to have scar tissue. Just one of those "you won't believe what happened to me" moments that I wanted to share. We really should write a book.

I had the same thing happen to me because my port was slightly turned. When he was putting the needle in it would hit the side of the port and it would bend the harder he pushed. After he figured out exactly how it was tilted and marked it on my chart it didn't happen anymore.

Yay! I'm so happy to hear this! I thought I was the only person in the world who had scar tissue that was affecting this whole process. I'm so happy to hear there are others out there like me! Now, I did not bend the needle . . . but my first attempted fill went crazy horrible bad. My Doc just couldn't get the needle in. He kept asking the nurse for longer and longer needles. He had me laying tilted upside down - practically standing on my head. :blink:He had me stand up, sit down, etc. etc. No luck.:P All the pushing on the scar tissue was very painful. :cursing:There was blood all over the doctor's gloves and he called in for reinforcements who pushed and prodded on me too. When the doc caught a glimpse of me and the tears running UP my face (from being upside down) he called the game. We tried again 2 weeks later and the needle popped right into the port in under 10 seconds with less than a pin prick of pain. While he was filling it though the needle came out - he had to tilt me back upside down and it took him a couple of minutes to get it back in - all the while I feel as if I'm suffocating on the Water that has backed up in my throat. He removed some saline and I was good to go. Feel great - I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone and that we can laugh at our scar tissue debacles!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
