I am currently waiting to be approved for surgery, and I don't know what it is but for the first time I just feel so motivated. I feel like I'm actually going to be happy about excercising tomorrow and every other day. I feel like I can do this, like I'm actually strong enough to create a new me and I love this feeling. Just had to share this, I am so excited.

I feel the same way. I have just started this process but with all the research and , of course, coming to this site to hear of everyone else's journey, I am highly motivated. I have gone through the psych eval, the chest x-ray (surgeon required), the nutritionist visit, and now, starting my 3 month exercise routine ( insurance requirement) I feel like I am finally moving in the right direction. Stay focused and keep motivated. With all the tools we will soon have, we can't help but be successful!

For me, it's been the same and I credit it to the fact that for the first time in my life I have started losing weight without the nagging thought that I will eventually fall off the wagon and regain the weight. So every effort I make seems like it's so very worth it!

I felt exactly the same way when I learned about the band and found out my insurance would cover it. I had no problem loosing the weight before surgery because I FINALLY felt like there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Getting the band was the best thing I have ever done for myself and it is making me healthier every day!

Keep up the good work girls!!!

I totally agree with you! I haven't even gotten my date yet, but I am doing things now that I haven't been able to do in the past 2 years. I am watching more of what I eat, drinking more Water, and best of all - I think I have given up my addiction to Diet Mt. Dew!!! This sounds silly, but this is HUGE for me, and it was the one thing that bothered me about having the band - was knowing that I wouldn't be able to drink it anymore. Well, I am at least a month away from surgery, and I haven't had a diet mt. dew in 3 days!!!

I think what we are all feeling is a renewed feeling of HOPE! Have a great week!

LOL Sherri! I was the same as you. I used to drink 6 cans (12 oz size) of Dt.Mtn Dew by noon! With will power, I have been soda free for 8 weeks and 1 day. If I can do it, anyone can do it! Best to you!

I'm with you guys! I was a total Diet Coke addict! at least 6 cans a day. When they told me no soda on my first visit with the doctor, I went home, looked at what I had in the house and said to myself "well, that's it. I quit when it's gone." That was early January. I thought it would be sooooo hard to not drink it but it has surprised me at how easily I gave it up.....guess it was because it was for a VERY GOOD reason!

Same here! I haven't finished my supply of Diet Coke yet, but once it's gone, it's gone. I have reallly cut back on my DC consumption/addiction, knowing that I will have to give it up once I get banded.

I agree with everyone else, this is an exciting journey, and knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel is just wonderful! :)

Ditto!!

I have a whole new outlook on weightloss. I am still awaiting funding but have already lost 30 lbs...mainly because I know that they will not be "found" again a few months down the road.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
