April 14th Surgery Date and Thank You

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

THANK YOU PHARMAGIRL FOR INVITING ME HERE.

My surgery will be in two weeks.

My middle son gets married this week. I have one week back at work and then a week off for the surgery. Whew! Time is flying!

My future daughter-in-law and I shopped for first foods I will have to eat for the first 5 days after surgery today. We bought:

two baby spoons

vegetable broth

chicken broth

beef broth

sugar free popsicles

sugar free powdered drink mixes for Water

bottles of water

decaffeinated sugar free tea

crystal light sugar free orange drink

sugar free Jello

1/2 cup plastic food containers

My doctor and nutritionist said I could only have Clear liquids for the first few days post-op. After that I will be on a sugar free full liquid diet for a week and a half and I can have  Protein drinks and skim milk in addition to the above.

I am not looking forward to the start of this journey and I am trying hard not to eat everything I think I might not be able to eat later

I need to find out how to start a "ticker".

Is anyone starting a scrapbook of their journey?

Hi April 14 bandsters! I too am getting banded April 14. On Tuesday I started the Atkins diet. My doctor has you follow that 2 weeks prior so that I don't have a fat liver. I do mis my carbs right now, not because I am hungry but because I can't have them. I'm going to have my DH take a before picture this week so I can post it and use it for my journey. I'm not a scrap booker either but I think if I take a picture monthly it will help motivate me during the times that this may seem too difficult. Just like looking at a picture and not realizing how much weight I have gained I figure looking at a picture and seeing how much I have lost will really help. Besides getting the food we'll need after surgery has anyone done any other last minute things to prep. I will be home for 2 weeks after - which I am really glad since it'll help me get used to the new eating way and to know what I can eat and what I can't. Good Luck to everyone and keep posting here.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
