Well, we're down to the final week. I'm supposed to have my pre-op tests on Friday. It's basically a physical, from what I've been told. If all goes well, I should have the surgery on Saturday. Right now, though, all I can think of is, 'What if I don't pass the pre-op tests? I feel like I'm healthy enough to have the surgery, but what if they find something?' I'm so nervous that something will go wrong and I'll have gotten my hopes up, only to have them dashed by not being able to have the surgery.

I have to stop driving myself nuts!

I had to have more than a physical .... Upper GI and swallow stufy; chest xray; sleep study; and, cardiologist clearance. But even with all that, it was not so much to rule out surgery as it was to eliminate any surprises in the operating room. The upper GI would have shown if I had a hiatal hernia (which would have been repaired during the band surgery); the sleep study was to see if I had sleep apnea (which if I had it would have required me to get the CPAP machine and use it for 2 weeks before having the surgery and bringing the CPAP with me to surgery); and the cardiologist was just to make sure my heart was okay for general anesthesia. You should be fine! Relax a little, take a deep breath. You're on your way!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
