Hello! My name is Jen and I've recently begun this process. I'm in month two of the Dr. supervised weight loss program...annoying thing is that I can't actually lose too much weight or I'll dip below the BMI threshold. I'm 36 years old, 5'7 1/2 and 271 pounds. I'm not nervous about surgery at all, wish I could have it tomorrow! Frustrating that I have to postpone any weight loss in order to get insured. I have CIGNA PPO and I've heard they're tough on insuring, so I don't want to cut any corners. Like many people on here, I've been overweight since I was a child and am looking forward to the day I have a normal BMI!

Well I wouldnt really worry about it. Just do as much research as possible about the lifestyle change and diet. I know insurance companies are a pain in the rear but we need them. I lost 10 and would gain 10 during the time I was doing the procedure. Unfortunately and luckily, my bmi was so high it wasn't affected by the loss or gain. My bmi was 57 went I started..54 when I had the surgery, i think.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
