I was banded March 20th. Ever since the surgery I am having a difficult time consuming my 60oz of Water. I am only able to drink 25oz of bottle water a day. I was told to drink 4oz every 30mins. However, I just feel stuffed. I am scared of stretching out my pouch. Should I be worried about liquid stretching my pouch or just solid food? I know this is a stupid question.

Hey Tummy,

My surgeon and nutritionist told me that I should work to get 64-100 oz of Water per day but that it would definitely take me a while to get there, and not to worry if I could not do it initially.

The nutritionist told me that some people were able to get all 64oz a few weeks post-op while others were only able to get in half of that in the same time frame.

I'd talk to your doc and/or nutritionist. Get in as much as you can obviously, but don't shove it in. I had surgery a few days after you and until today I was only able to get in about 12oz of Water a day (plus another 12 of Protein shake, etc). Today I've managed about 20 which is surprising!

I too have been only able to get in one 25oz bottle of Water usually. yesterday I got in about half of another one, but today not again. I have been wondering the same thing, so glad you asked! I too feel full if I drink anymore than I have been.

The dietician told me to try to get at least one can of the Protein shake down (11oz) each day and I've been doing that, but don't see that I want to do anymore than that because I feel full. I think everything is just going to be a gradual adjustment. My post op apt is Tuesday and I have a ton of questions!

Tummy,

I do have a question for you though. Do you like to drink the Water? To be honest I didn't until I put Walmart flavoring in it, like Crystal Light but Walmart brand has no calories. Once I began drinking Water like that I was able to down 72 ounces. Yes, I have to get up and go to the bathroom alot but it is all worth it. Also, once you begin to exercise if you haven't already your body will need the water to replenish what you have lost.

I actually love to drink water. Prior to the surgery I would drink tons of water. That is why I am so concerned because I know I am not drinking as much as I should.

What everyone is saying makes sense. I guess as I heal I will be able to drink more water.

I too was a Water lover before surgery and struggled to get in what I needed after surgery. I found Crystal Light or at least the Walmart version. Cherry limade is my favorite and I rarely drink water without it. I don't have any problems getting in what I need.

Try a few flavors, even as a water lover you may be surprised. I was!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
