Something stuck, nothing will stay down now....HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My husband and I went out to dinner last night. We were trying out our new eating out techniques where we share 1 meal instead of our usual ordering two. Well long story short, We ordered steak(pretty lean) and I ate about 2 oz. of it. Before I new it, I had PB'ed in the restroom of the restaurant twice before we left and as soon as we came home another time. I thought everthing came up but I still felt stuck even until this morning.

I thought that I should take it easy and go back on liquids, but not even the liquids will stay down completely. I'm imagining a piece of steak that I didn't chew well enough is stuck somewhere in the upper pouch and it is not letting anything go down. I'm super freaked out and need suggestions.

I feel extra burpy and slimy whenever I drink anything too. I have abnormal pressure in my chest. I'm afraid that I've been overly vomitting and now my band has slipped to. I pray it hasn't but I guess that's the worry wart side of me. Please help, is there anything I can drink or take to alleveate this discomfort??? Help please!

It happens to the best of us so don't worry. I've never heard of anyone doing damage the first time they do this....

just drink (quickly, gulping) pineapple juice or sodapop....it will loosen and come right up- hopefully.

I had to go to the ER for surgery, well...they gave me a general and then had to 'retrieve' it ....they used a net thing.

Try the liquids and try to relax yourself and your body when doing this....let it come back up.

The warm tea thing works for me... but if you are still filling like this by tomorrow and you are not able to eat anything or drink your normal amount of Fluid go to your Dr. so they can loosen it up so it can pass thru and they will prob. put the fluid back in... be careful and don't sit and wait too long because you may become dehydrated...

You can try SLOWLY sipping pineapple juice. Very slowly. Try to keep it down as long as possible. That usually worked for me. If you drink it too fast you'll barf.

Now, if you can't get liquids down at all you would be vomiting about every 20 minutes because you wouldn't be able to keep your saliva down. If you are getting some liquids down I would guess swelling? But thing is, it could also be a slip. If you think you have slipped or obstructed you need to go to an ER.

Sounds like you had a bad "stuck". Just remember that it sort of roughed up your esophagus and stomach. Go easy on it ... and definitely call your doctor tomorrow if you aren't feeling any better. And as for steak .... it's really lean but it isn't always juicy and dry meat sticks, be it chicken pork or steak. Next time you have steak, get it rare... That might be less done than you prefer, but it will be juicier and easier to eat.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions. I tried the pineapple juice and drank it slowly. I was indeed afraid that it would come back up but it actually stayed down. I now feel a 100% better. I could feel my esophogus getting raw from all the PB/sliming. Now after the pineapple juice, I feel so much better. I can tell that it passed because I'm not burping and no more pressure....YAY! Not to worry, I'm going to go on Soups for a bit to let everything settle back down. Thanks so much, I was so worried. It's so comforting to know there are supportive people like you all in this endevour.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
