I also noticed my hair falling out more than normal. Started during the 2 weeks before my surgery on the liquid diet and now a week after surgery. I had my husband go to Walmart and buy me some chewable Multi Vitamins. I wished I could have found some liquid or chewable prenatale Vitamins but could not. Not only have I noticed that I am feeling alot better, but also my hair is not falling out near as much. Hope this helps.

I lost LOTS of hair, but not until about 4 months post op. The suggestions I got were - make sure you are getting enough Protein, make sure you are drinking all the Water you are supposed to, and take Biotin. I was doing all these things and still lost a lot. It has gotten better now, and I think I have new hair coming in. Not sure if anything really helps - but just my opinion. Good luck to you. Becky

In the seminar (way back at the beginning of this journey!) my surgeon said (I'm paraphrasing but this is the jist of it) Most of you will lose a lot of hair, around month 3 to month 6 or so. You can take supplements, make sure you have enough Protein, or not do anything, and you will still lose hair. I have done over 1000 procedures and only had one patient who needed a wig; coincidentally she owned a wig shop. For the rest of you, it won't be that drastic, it will stop, and your hair will grow back just fine.

That's what happened to me. Starting about 2 1/2 months in (but then I had 2 surgeries in August) I lost hair. The loss lasted about 2 1/2 months, then quit. It is all growing back fine and full. And even my beautitian of 20+ years never could tell I'd lost a bunch (but it was a bunch!) so I guess my surgeon knows his stuff. You can take the supplements to make yourself feel better but I don't think they will stop or impact the loss.

I did look into Biotin during month 4 because I was starting to worry but the stuff I read said Biotin took up to 3 months to work. So I didn't spend the money (or mess with the pill).

So supplement or not, you'll probably be one who loses hair, then it will stop and all grow back!

I, too lost a lot of hair but I had read about it so I had started taking Biotin as soon as I had my surgery. Once the Hair loss really started, I upped my dose and started using a Biotin Shampoo.< /p>

I know people are saying the hair loss will stop, but I felt better using the Biotin products. My hair grows much faster now and my nails look so much healthier.

Oh and I did make sure I got all my Protein in, but the hair still falls out. It has to do with the shock to your body from the weight loss and the surgery.

I use a Biotin pill I get at Walmart and I am now using Avalon Organics Biotin + B Thickening Shampoo. You can go direct to their website, but it is cheaper at drugstore dot com.

Good luck and it will get better!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
