I'm freakin out a little

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I'm scheduled for surgery on April 7th so I have a little more than a week and I think I'm getting sick! I was told not to have any Vitamins for a week before the surgery so I'm afraid to take anything. I know if I'm sick they won't do the surgery. Can anyone help? Is there something I can take so I don't get sick, or get over it fast?

Call your doctor and see what they will do. Some will do surgery even if you are sick as long as you don't have a fever and feel okay. Others will cancel.

If you feel a cold coming on, Zicam often will kill it. But if you aren't supposed to have Vitamins, you should check if it's okay to take it.

I was allowed to have Vitamins, btw.

I know how you feel! I started getting a cold about 8 days before surgery and I FREAKED OUT! I was so worried that I wouldn't get to have surgery.

Check with your surgeon first for sure.

For me, I took Airborne 3x a day and did the Zicam nasal stuff (on the q-tip not the spray) every 4 hours and I had mine knocked in 3 days thankfully.

Thank you for your response. I have started taking Zicam and am feeling a little better. I will have to call my doc though just to make sure I can keep taking it if I have to. As far as the Vitamin thing, I think his office takes extra precautions cause he requires a lot of things other doctors don't but I guess that's good. Thanks again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
