Banded 3/16..need advice

Hi--I was banded 3/16. I lost 9 pounds the first week, but haven't lost any the second week (maybe one pound?). Anyway, I was getting discouraged because I kept my calories to 1000-1100 but didn't understand why I didn't lose weight this week. I thought this would be enough. However, I've been reading through the board and I see that some people eat only 600 to 800 a day. I could do this but I was afraid this wasn't enough.

Should I lower my calories to 800?

you need to follow the diet recommended by your surgeon. The first 6 weeks or so post op are for healing, not weight loss. Once you have healed you can count calories etc if you WANT to (you don't have to)

and remember the average weight loss with the band is 1-2 pounds a week. I think you are expecting the losses to be like bypass and they aren't. You are doing fine; just relax, follow your docs orders, and heal.

how are you getting that much in?

whats your diet?

how much do you work out? walk?

like restless said you are healing now. but you can still loss weight. i lost over 20 pounds the first 8 days. but thats because i was only getting about 350 cal. in a day and walking as much as i was allowed to.

Lowering your calories that low will lower your metabolism long term and slow down your weight loss. Most people in the survey here I read were eating about 1200 calories a day and exercising.

Less than 1000 calories is undersirable long term imo. Dont lower them that far other than once in a while if you must.

I dont think I lost 9 lbs my first month after surgery and you lost 9 lbs in the first two weeks and are discouraged?? You need to get past that so when you go onto regular foods and dont lose that fast you arent going to get even more discouraged and quit trying. I went into a stall for 5 weeks before I lost. If that happens to you, you dont want to just give up and not eat right, because at some point everyone has points where the weight loss slows up they have to get thru.

Wasa, I saw elsewhere that you challenged that this was true. I also know getting into a argument with you is counterproductive. I know what works for me. I said above its ok to lower calories once in a while. I used to do it for a weekend and works fine, but long term the weight loss stalled out. Even your post elsewhere said you did it off and on, not every day, or I misread how you did the 600 calories.

Glad your sleeve is working for you and you found the answer for you. My answer is more calories overall. Sure as I said above you can cut for a couple of days, but then go back to about 1200 calories, not cut day after day. Because you claim it doesnt hurt to lower calories, the only proof you have is yourself, the same as the proof I have bottom line. Please lets not have one of your infamous arguments here where you go after one person. This isnt my first diet either. We both know what works for our own selves with the amount of exercise we are getting.

Just for the record I was the biggest loser on a nutrisystem site for at least 3 months. I lost more lbs a month than much larger men and women. I must be doing something right too when I put the effort into losing. right now Im kinda burnt out on losing, just want to eventually get to goal.

You made a claim, I was merely interested in the science behind your claim.

I never said you have to consume 600 calories a day to lose weight, I'm thrilled you found what works for you. But I was challenging the across the board statement you made. That's all.

The only thing I changed while I was losing is carb intake, not caloric.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
