Hey! Just wondering how much you've looked into the nurse corps? I've been an RN for 3 years now and have always considered going into military nursing, weight always being one of the stopping factors. After deciding to get the band and realizing the possibility of a military career, I've read in multiple places and from many people that having a lap band, as of right now, is considered an automatic medical disqualifier for the military. Anyway just wondering if you've heard anything about it!

My motivations:

  1. I want to be healthy again
  2. I want to play with my kids and NOT get tired
  3. I want to get pregnant once i loose the weight and to look pregnant rather than fat
  4. I want a better sex life with my husband. I've gotten rather boring over the past few years
  5. I want more choices in clothing - I'm tired of settling for what fits.
  6. I dont want my kids to be the ones with the "fat mom" at school.
  7. I need to feel better about myself and I know this will help.

My goals::thumbdown:

  1. By christmas of 2009 I want to be between 200 and 250 (currently sporting a weight of 306.2)
  2. By the summer of 2010 - I want to be between 150 and 200.
  3. Ultimately I'd love to be about 150 again.

I know those are broad weight goals, but I'm leaving them that way so that I don't put to much pressure on myself. I'll be happy to make it to that point.

My motivation is to be able to do things that everyone else my age can do.

-buy regular sized clothes.

-be able to ride roller coasters without having to worry if I'll fit.

-be able to run a mile.

there are so many things that motivate me I just can't think of them all right now. My goal weight is to be 170. I'm 5'10 and I don't want to be super skinny, I want to still have my curves. My doctors thinks that I will get down to 150. I would love to reach goal in the next year and definately think I can do that!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
