Hi,

My first post and it's not good. I got my band on 3/13. It's two weeks and I already realize that I wasn't as ready as I thought. I did a lot of research and planning, but I have done most things wrong these past two weeks. My follow-up went well but the doctor didn't ask me much and I didn't volunteer any info. I lost well on the liver shrink, as well as on my own before it; day of surgery I was down about 29lbs . However, I had only lost 9lbs. since my pre-op visit so about 4 weeks. I really lost more I think because I had put some on and lost it again. The first week was full liquid and I was almost OK. At the end of the week I tried some tuna salad and chicken salad went down fine so I went with it. Second week same stuff plus. I thought it should be mushies and if it was soft I could have it, now I see it was to be liquids again, mushies the next week. So I threw chicken in processor, steamed some liver. Now I know I am eating about 2 weeks ahead of myself!!! I have a fill scheduled on the 13th and I don't want it; I don't eat a lot but it is more than it should be. I have felt good and I am afraid that with restriction I will have problems all the time. My head isn't in the right place yet and I don't know how to get it there.:)

you need to talk to your surgeon ASAP. eating ahead like that MIGHT have done damage to your stomach where the band is sewn in (assuming you have a lap band; if it's realize, I think it's clamped, either way you ate too soon)

It is HARD to eat right; most of us have that problem or we wouldn't be here. HOWEVER you pull it together and tough it out for the few short weeks you have to, in order to heal properly.

You may be right, you may not be ready. however it's a little late now; you have the band. Talk to your surgeon monday and see what he says. I'm sure you aren't the first, maybe you didn't hurt yourself at all, and maybe he (and the psych and nutritionist) can get you back on track.

I am not an avid dieter and I don't think you'll burn if you eat a burger instead of grilled fish. BUT I know how vital it is post op to heal properly and you aren't giving your "innards" even a fighting chance. Do what you are supposed to from here on out until monday, call your doc. Please. I'll cross my fingers for you but you need to step up.

I understand how you feel completely! It is not about the food we are eating, it's about what's eating us. Once you figure out what the real problem is that caused you to ever feel like you needed WLS in the first place, you will be on your way. I have had to realize that nothing or on one around me is more important that me gaining the sense of health and well-being that I desire. I had surgury on 1/14 and have fallen off the wagon.....I went for my second fill on 3/23 and only lost .7 pounds in 4 weeks! I decided then that when I go back in 4 weeks I will have at least lost 10 pounds, but it is not magic, I have to do my part. Remember the reasons you decided to have the surgery in the first place and reflect on those things. Also, you are not even a month out; at 2 weeks out, I didn't want my band anymore, but I had to realize that the band is just a tool and I still must put in the work. However much weight you have lost so far, look at it as weight that you will never see again. Everytime I respond to a post such as yours, I tell the person that this weight loss journey is not a sprint, it is a marathon and the goal is to stay in the race.....I think you are still in the race. Be blessed!

Yep, you are certainly still in this race! You are sooo human, and have taken the first step - Confession / Truth!:)

I was 1st and foremost to get a good nutritionist to help with an ongoing eating plan.

Speak with your doc... DO NOT PANIC! :)

Ask for and TAKE his/her advice.

I can remember a few weeks into it - thinking to myself, "What the heck have I done!" But, I wouldn't change it for anything. I feel so good about my health. Feels awesome to not be the biggest think walking into every room I enter.

Best of luck to you! You Can Do This.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
