I was told stuff like pineapple, rhubarb, breads and asparugus can stick but what else sticks? They mentioned that some people have problems eating rice, is this the case? I am not on solids yet, but when I do get there i have had this huge craving for california rolls and really hope that i can have them.

To be honest it all depends on how tight you are. The band is a fickle thing sometimes nothing get stuck sometimes I have a problem with foods that are usually fine. The things that have given me problems so far are any type of thick bread (subway bread) muffins, pound cake, Sometimes chinese food, and dry chicken. Those are things that you really shouldn't be eating any ways and I won't again!

with everyone it is different, you maybe able to eat things others can't. Rice does tend to get stuck, anything sticky, bread, dressing, try to avoid food that tends to expand it will cause discomfort, you will find it's going to be trial and error with trying to figure out what you can eat, the more Fluid you have in your band the more restriction your going to have and you will find through different stages of you fill you will be able to eat something one time and them maybe you can't eat it again. just make sure you avoid what your doctor told you too. They gave me a list of foods to avoid when i had my surgery. make sure you stick to it, and you will learn quick what you can eat and what you can't, especially when you get the pain you get when something does get stuck, and you will learn really fast to avoid that food, I would avoid the california roll if i were you, i think you would have trouble getting it down, unless you can really cut it into very small pieces, but i think i would avoid it if i were you.. good luck

White rice can be a problem. Brown rice is easier. I know the sushi restaurant I like has in the past made various rolls for me with brown rice. But rice is a big carb so I have eaten only 5 pieces of sushi since my surgery and that was not all on one day .... more like one a day on my cruiset a time and I had to chew VERY, VERY well. White stuff sticks ... flour tortillas, white rice, white bread. Asparagus and other vegetables that have a lot of Fiber are likely to block the stoma (exit from the new small pouch through the band to the larger part of your stomach). What doesn't stick now, may later. I can tell you I have eaten exactly ONE BITE of bread since my surgery and the pain from being stuck completely destroyed the desire to have another bite, LOL.

I was told that I absolutely would not be able to eat pineapple, but I can eat pineapple until the world looks level.but, sometimes applesauce gets stuck. Its just depends on where I am between fills also sometimes even on what time of day it is.Nothing is fool proof with a band.

I agree with the above statement about how full your band is. I know for me, I can eat whatever I want. Which is a bad thing. I have no trouble with rice, breads, or anything. It just shows I need more of a fill.

Just know that you can have sushi again (i do), but high carb foods are how we all get into this mess to begin with.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
