Question about CPAP

Recommended Posts

I haven't got the cpap yet--if you don't have it there's nothing wrong with you?! :)

My question is--When you first got it what changes did you have besides for a goodnight sleep? :crying:

--brain function?

--memory?

--weight loss?

--energy?

--etc?

When I first got mine I noticed a couple of changes. I always struggled to get up in the morning, sleeping with the CPAP made it easier to get up with the clock. Pre-Cpap I would "zone out" sometimes at work worse sometimes driving. This stopped once I started using the CPAP.

I dont know about energy - people keep telling me I should feel more energeric with my weight loss and yet I don't??? Maybe it will come one day

I've had my CPAP for almost a year and I'd say, for me at least, the difference was almost instantaneous since I didn't have that much trouble adjusting to it. I didn't almost fall asleep at the wheel. I didn't want to crawl into bed at 8:30 at night. I didn't fall asleep while holding onto my computer mouse at work. I felt better.

So yes, I'd say, for me at least, I had more energy and definitely better brain function.

I love my CPAP machine but I'm wondering if, once I lose more weight, I'll even need it. I guess I'll need another sleep study in a year or so to see.

I'm lovin' my cpap. Except they brought me the wrong mask and I am waiting on them to bring me my nice nasal pillows...:)

I have not had a hard time adjusting to it. I am on a level 12. The only thing that I am having a problem is trying to sleep on my side and stomach with this mask...it is impossible. I think it is a little big too.:)

Things I can absolutely tell is that I am more alert, and not yawning like crazy and can make it more then 5 hours without wanting to take a 3 hour nap

I get to watch the end of TV shows instead of waking up after they have ended.

No headaches in the morning.

I stop breathing 100 times per hour. Pre CPAP I was really tired in the afternoons, if i sat down i fell asleep (even sitting up). This doesn't happen anymore. I have lost 25kgs (55lbs) and I have 10kgs (22lbs) to go. 3 days ago I had surgery on my nose to widen my nasal passages. My doctor thinks that nose surgery combined with the weight I have lost will mean I wont have to use CPAP anymore - i'm really hoping this is the case.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
