conniern98 0 Posted March 27, 2009 Hello everyone out there! My name is Connie and I am in the very beginning stages of this whole lap band process. I am 41 years old and have been overweight most of my life or at least as long as I can remember. I have done all the usual diets, pills, drinks, etc... trying to lose weight over the years and have succeeded temporarily, until I would gradually put it all back on. So at this point in my life I weigh my heaviest at 260 and I am starting to have health problems because of it! I have two kids, ages 6 and 9 and have no energy to keep up with them! So I have decided to pursue lap band surgery is an effort to finally lose the weight and keep it off! I have had my initial consult with the clinic through which I will be having it done and am in the "lose 10%, eat a 1500 cal diet, drink lots of Water, exercise...." part of things. I have been told it will be a 6-7 month pre-op program before I can have the surgery. So far I have lost about 5 pounds. I go between being scared to death to do this and being excited and wanting it done NOW! So I have enjoyed reading some of the posts on this site to give me some encouragement to continue the process. food and eating has been such a focal point in my life that I worry how I will handle not being able to "overeat".....but maybe these are all normal feelings prior to having this done?? I have all the classes to attend yet and the support groups so hopefully my fears will be alleviated during the process. Thanks for all the posts that let me know how the experience has been for you. It seems that for the most part everyone is glad they had it done and would do it again, so that helps me in making my decision.
plain 12 Posted March 27, 2009 Hi connie. Welcome to lapbandtalk. Feelings of apprehension are totally normal, and for most of us there IS a period of "food appreciation" adjustment / mourning. As you move through all the prerequisites, you'll learn more......and there is a TON of informational posts on here. So pull up a chair and dive right in!! Glad to have you here, and good luck on your journey!
