Low libido after weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I'm a female and I've loss 65lbs in 9months and feel great so I know its not psychological. My thyroid was normal prior to my Lapband surgery. Since losing all this weight my libido has been at zero. Anybody feeling the same? What did you do to restore your libido?:smile2:

See your primary doc. You don't say how old you are but losing should either not impact it, or help it, not hurt it, regardless. Unless you are exercising and undereating so much that you are fatigued all the time, something else may be going on. Go get a check up.

I am the same, feel great and lots of energy but zero interest in sex.

Seriously, anyone impacted this way should go to primary (or gyn.) and get some bloodwork done. Losing large amts. of weight can definitely mess with your hormones and cause problems. Go get checked out; they need to be regulated properly for reasons beyond sex drive. :smile2:

I agree with restless monkey, this is definitely something to see the doctor about.

Hormones can be off after losing weight, it is common and people can be affected in different ways such as ultra pms, menstrual cycle changes, becoming extra fertile, etc. Hormones are also stored in fat and are released as the fat is being reduced. Simple tests by your doctor can probably give you an easy answer that can help you to find the means to address the issue.

Yea that is for surely weird cause you think you would be all about sex after losing that amount of weight. It's got to be an imbalance of some sort. I'm in the same situation with no libido but not due to a tremendous amount of weight loss. Has any one tried a female libido enhancer? Men have the blue pill so we have to have something? Right?

Yes, I can identify with this, I thought it was just me because to be honest, I've never been someone whos interested more than once or twice a week. Now I dont care if its months.

That was OK, I had DH to keep us on the straight and narrow, lol. But now HE's suffering the same thing.

I do think something about weight loss is the reason.

I'm 21 and I've gotten this way. It use to be that we'd do it atleast 3 times a week. now we're lucky if we do it once a week.

I was kinda the same way until I got plastic surgery to remove the excess skin. I think that I was self conscience about the hanging stuff but now I feel much better. I don't know...maybe it was all in my head. Whatever it is....good luck with it...I can't get enough now ;-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
