Confused with terminology

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone I am a new bander. I have been looking through some of the post and I am trying to understand some of the words or abrevations. I am going for my first fill on 4/13 and I would like to know what you guys mean by restrictions? Also I have seen pb or pbed and I do not understand what it stands for. I enjoy reading the post and a lot of them have answered some of my questions; but I need to fully understand what I am reading.

Thanks

This is a link to info that I found SOOOO helpful. I have no idea if the link will work or not. I'm not very computer literate!

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_faq#faq_abbreviations

If the link doesn't work go to the FAQ area, then click on abbreviations. I hope I have helped!

Restriction refers to the feeling you have when your band has enough "fill" (saline) in it that it slows your eating, or prevents the ingestion of certain foods. Everyone wants good restriction so that we get full quickly, but don't want to be "overfilled" (too restricted) so that we can't eat many foods. Hope that helps.

Oh and that list gave a quick def of PB...when you take too large a bite of some foods (once you have restriction) or you don't chew well, the bite of food (called a bolus) has to go somewhere. Since it is too large and can't go down, it comes back up. It is like vomiting, but without the stomach acid and "violence" of normal vomiting. It is VERY painful before you "burp" up the food and not pleaseant, so people try to avoid it by choosing foods we can eat, taking small bites, and chewing VERY well.

well said, restless!

honeydiva- whatever you do- stay away from carrots!!!

they made me do more than "pb", the way they were violently thrusted from inside me was one of the most horrible experiences ever!

thanks, just banded! But...honeydiva may be able to eat carrots if she wants to! I can! We all just have to find our own trigger foods and hopefully if we chew well and take small small bites we'll be ok. I can eat cooked carrots, and I can eat raw ones if they are grated (slivers). I wouldn't try to just bite of a chunk of a raw one, though!

Thanks everyone for helping me out with all the information. I can fully understand what I am reading now. Smartiegirl the link was a big help and I printed it out, posted it by my computer for future use. As for the carrot issue, I have no problem with cooked carrots or any other foods right now (fingers crossed) but I have to remember not to drink and eat at the same time or chew my foods really good.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
