anyone cheat on preop diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm getting banded 4-1. Been on liquid diet since the 19th. I have done really well, much better than I expected but I am wanting to EAT something even if it's a veggie burger. I have lost about 18 pounds in the last week...has anyone eaten something good for you or not during your preop diet the week before surgery and did it mess anything up?

not me. no way. i'm on day 10 (surgery April 1st and I started a day early). when you get to this stage, at least for me, i have hit bottom. This is my last resort. if this doesn't work, whatever will I do? so for me to cheat would be the most outrageous form of self sabotage imaginable.

I read on here about BUNCHES of people who cheated on their preop diets with no bad effect, so I cheated on mine. (not badly, I still lost a good chunk of weight!) BUT when I came to in recovery I was told "you didn't get the band, dear, your liver was too large" That is a HORRIBLE feeling and not worth indulging in any food.

I followed my doc's orders TO THE LETTER and lost a bunch MORE weight and got the band 2 1/2 weeks later.

So my advice to you, regardless of what you read on here, is DO WHAT YOUR DOC TELLS YOU TO. Don't cheat. You may "get away" with it; but if you don't, the results are dreadful, shameful, and expensive.

I am on pre op day 4. The first two days I did great; however, yesterday, I almost passed out. I think it is because my cycle is going to start (it did last night, sorry TMI) and plus only Protein shake and a lean cuisine for dinner. I did ate some almonds and added more veggie (lettuce) to my food. I feel a little better after that.

Today, I feel ok but my stomuch os growling all day long. I am going to call my doctor and see if I can drink gaterade due to potassium loos while having cycle.

I hope what I did yesterday did not prevent me from having a band.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
