UHC Choice Plus PPO

Recommended Posts

I know for a fact uhc choice plus doesnt require any 6 mnth nor a 3mnth diet before surgery, infact i used to have the plan, but at that time lapband wasnt on my mind i was trying to do it by myself, then when my company merged with jmpc...i coincidently decided to get the band..well jpmorgan deals with aetna here in dfw,tx so when i found out that i had to do a 3 mnth supervised diet when i could of gotten approved instantly with uhc i literally beat myself up!!! and i would of only had to pay 100 bucks for the whole thing....now im mostly gonna have to pay my 2k out of pocket maxium with aetna.....!!!

Thanks so much Aurelia! That gives me hope. She is definitely sending the request, but she painted a very doom and gloom forecast this afternoon. Hopefully the documents that she received since then helped. Please keep your fingers crossed for me .

This is my first post. But I am extremely frustrated. I have been denied by UHC for my request to have lap band surgery. My BMI is 34.9 but I have high blood pressure that is responding to medication and diabetes mellitus that is no longer responding to oral medications.

Does anyone out there have advice on steps I can take to win approval? I'm 57 and I'm running out of time. My kidneys have begun to shut down due to the diabetes. I need help from anyone with any pointers. Thank you.

Carmen, ss UHC pretty good to send letters to you as they send them to the doctor?

When I called to see if my policy covered the lap band, I was told yes and then the representative read me an Explanation of Benefits. I asked her if I could get a written copy of the explanation, and she told me to go to Health Insurance Quotes for Medical Insurance, from UnitedHealthcare. I have looked and looked and cannot find the information anywhere under my Benefits section. Under "Bariatric Services," it says "Not applicable."

Any ideas??

Carmen, is UHC pretty good to send letters to you as they send them to the doctor?

When I called to see if my policy covered the lap band, I was told yes (depending on qualifications such as BMI over 40, 5-year documentation of weight, etc.) and then the representative read me an Explanation of Benefits. I asked her if I could get a written copy of the explanation that she read to me, and she told me to go to www.myuhc.com to find all the info. I have looked and looked and cannot find the information anywhere under my Benefits section. Under "Bariatric Services," it says "Not applicable."

Any ideas??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
