Ideal calorie count to lose the most weight?

Recommended Posts

I try to stay around 1200. I think I needed more than that when I was walking 7 to 10 miles a day, my weight loss slowed down. Sparks said I was burning about 750 calories a day walking, and it wasnt enough calories I presume. I cut back on the walking to speed up the loss for now. I go back to the longer walking closer to goal to gain muscles.

What seems to work for me, is to keep my calorie intake at about half of what I'm burning, but I have trouble right now doing that because I eat too much.

Right now I'm burning about 2800=3400 calories a day. So I eat about 1200-1600 a day. Those are just averages.

My goal is to lose another 55lbs in the next 6 months. That comes out to about 1300 calories a day defecit. Only time will tell if I can make it or not?

I don't believe in the starvation mode theory either. Except if you don't get enough Protein in. Then I believe it will hurt you. Starvation mode theory goes back to the genetic evolution of man theory.....well man evolved eating much less carbs then we eat.

Excellent goals!

It's going to be really hard to do that as you get closer to goal since your BMR will be decreasing. So don't be too hard on yourself physically and in terms of calories once you get closer to goal.

600 calories a day isn't for everyone but it can be done safely. I did it.

I always got at least 60gms of Protein in daily which is what my doc suggested, I had plenty of energy, plenty of muscle, no problems.

Starvation mode... there isn't any solid science between that concept.

I am glad to hear you did it safely and are healthy. That is what is important. I have done well on my 1100-1200 calories with just about 95 lbs in 7 months. I think the exercise helped. I think some days we get hung up on calories and rapid weight lost that we forget that the goal is good heath.

I eat between 1,200-1,600 a day. I try not measure or count calories. The day I start weighing and measure is the day I will feel like I am dieting.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
