Hi,

I know this may be insensitive talking about food because I know many of us are still only a few days post op, but I can't help it ...

I am 10 days post-op and I swear I can think of nothing else but this great falafel sandwich, or grilled cheese sanswich, or turkey sub that I would love to be eating right now..

Does this get better once I go into the soft food stage (only taking liquids).. Will this go away once I start to eat again?

I find it hard to concentrate sometimes because I'm thinking about what I would like to eat... Maybe cuz I'm HUNGAAARY, and I'm sick of drinking?

Advice?

What you are talking about is psychological hunger. It does go away as you start to eat mushy food and regular food.

Try more variety to your liquid intake. Try smoothies. Jamba juice is great and even Starbucks has a great banana chocolate vivano drink that is only 260 calories and is a Protein drink! I love those. I don't feel deprived when others are getting the good stuff, I just get creative. I get Soup from Subway, and once I was okay to eat mushies, rice and Beans from Taco Bell.

When you get to mushies, try eggs, refried Beans and mashed up rice. Baby food is also great to add for more nutrients.

I'm 2 weeks post op right now and i just got to start some mushy food and boooyyy, was it awesome! For some reason I was craving Grits, so that was the first thing I ate. I pureed some black Beans tonight and I was in heaven! Don't get me wrong, I still crave my Chili's and Chinese Food, but the pounds are coming off and that's my motivation. Good luck... it gets better:thumbup:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
