Contemplating Surgery!?!?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for answers, encouragement, discouragement, etc. I am seriously thinking of the surgery.

You have to do it for yourself. I've been told time and again, it's not a solution- it's a tool. I know for me, I researched it for almost 4 years, went to my first seminar in 2007, and then decided to give it another try on my own for a year. At the end of 2008, I decided I needed help. It's a big step to take and from what I see after reading others posts who have had the surgery, it takes as much dedication as any other diet- the difference is it's a life change, not temporary.

In my opinion you have to be MENTALLY prepared more then anything.

Good luck!!

Yes!!!!

It is best thing I ever did, I just wish I would have done it sooner.

I was a big carb eater, not a sweet eater at all, so it really worked wonders with me.

I eat almost everything I did before, just small amounts. I don't even think the way I used to think about food.

I love exersize now, weight training, Zumba and Jazzersize. I can bend, jump and even run now!!! I couldn't even move out of my own way before!

It's great.

I still have 49 pounds to go, but it will go in time. I've lost 66 pounds so far (my ticker below needs updated)

I do make frequent trips to the Goodwill, taking back clothes I bought there 2 months before and getting smaller ones.

It's awesome!!

In all honesty, if you decided to do it I would suggest not telling people. The only people who know for me is, my husband and mother and father (because I live with them). I've heard stories of all the non-supportive people who try to talk people out of it. I would keep it to yourself until you've had it done at the very least.

And I agree with the other comment you must do it for you and no one else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
