I realize that I am only three weeks post surgery but the location of my port is a large bulge (fills my palm). It was not this big or I don't remember being this large before last night. Almost all pain is gone and it is not red which is all my Dr. office told me to watch for (pain and redness). Have you-all experenced this same issue??? Diet seems to be going great having lost 45lbs since starting liquid diet at pre-opt. Spend a lot of time hungry but want to loose the weight. Could the port just be showing more because of the weight loss or am I just not healed enough to have all the swelling go down??? Should see my Dr. again on 7 April for a fill.

I am about 4 1/2 weeks out. My port did the same thing. It is a combination of your weight loss and the swelling. Mine is flat now. I go for my ist fill tommorrow.. alittle unsure of what to expect. I have lost 28 lbs but have not lost any in 2 weeks. My appetite is coming back so I guess I am on tract.

best of luck!!

I had the same thing...it slowly went down in size as time went on. Now its just the port. Its just swelling and Fluid build up. If for what ever reason it doesn't reduce in size you doc will simply drain the fluid with a suringe. Good luck

I was banded 12/22/08 with the realize band and I had the same thing happen to me. So I think it may be a side effect, but it went away after a few days.

I would at least CALL your doctor and make him/her aware of it. Probably nothing to be concerned about, but you should at least tell you doctor about it.....

Thanks everyone, I told my Dr. staff about the bulge when it was smaller and a lot more painful and they said to just watch it and if the pain got worse or turned red (ie. infection) to call back otherwise the 7 April appt would be fine. Again thanks for the replies and support!!!

Mine stuck out a lot. It made my belly button look sideways. It took weeks to go down. That side of my belly button stuck out like an inch farther than the other side. I thought it would never go down or I would have a big lump there. Then one day it was gone so it will be okay.

I am glad you called your doc. Just do as they say and keep checking for pain or redness and check with your doc if it starts to bothers you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
