Fill After Car Accident

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was in a car accident in December and haven't lost any weight since then. I had injuries from the accident and I am still being treated for my injuries. I am really discouraged that I haven't lost any weight but I guess it's understandable since I am not really doing any exercise except for physical therapy. My question is: I am thinking about getting another fill, but am hesitant because I am dealing with a lot of medical issues & pain from the accident. I've gained about 2-3 lbs and am afraid I will start gaining my weight back if I don't get it under control now. I don't want to get into my old eating habits. What are your thoughts on this? Fill or not to fill ~ that is the question.:tt1: Thanks!

How much restriction do you have? That's the deciding factor, IMHO...although to be fair to yourself, if you had an accident in December and don't have much restriction and have "only" gained 3 pounds in the 3 months (while dealing with the physical, emotional and financial impact of the accident) I think you're doing darn well.

This is something only you can decide. It's important that you get adequate (healthy) nutrition while you heal. Are you up for adding restricition onto your plate, so to speak? IE Following your surgeons rules no liquid while eating chew the dickens out of food tiny bites etc? If you already have good restriction, a fill won't help. If you don't...well, you're in for a surprise. It might be too much to deal with. Only you know that for sure!

I also was in an accident on Valentine's Day, but I found I became too tight from the pain and stress. It is just now back to where I want it to be. Examine the foods and the amounts you are eating. Are you consuming more than you are supposed to or are they slider foods that don't get stuck? If you are just consuming too much of healthy foods, then I would probably go for a small fill to see if it helps. If you notice you are eating soft slider foods, then try to eat you Proteins and see what happens. If you get stuck, go for a small unfill. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Sorry you were hurt in the accident and hope you're better soon!

I'm just beginning this journey and though I feel like a novice on whether or not to fill, I can't help but think your body is working overtime on fixing whatever got hurt. Also if you're on pain meds, they have a way of messing around with other metabolic actions within your body so now wouldn't be the best time to determine how to proceed.

I would sit tight, heal yourself and then address your band. Regardless, I hope you feel better soon and are back running around soon.

Thanks for all your responses. I think that I may just stay where I am at for now so I don't have one more thing to worry about during my recovery. I will just watch my food intake a little more carefully and be more of aware of what I am eating and try to get a little exercise. Thanks again for responding.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
