April Bandsters, anyone?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Thursday. I was up walking the first day and I feel like I am pretty much back to normal. It hurt to take deep breaths for a couple of days, but I am doing better now. I have not had any appetite so far.

Had my surgery Friday 4/10 spent the night in the hospital didn't get up much not because I didn't feel like it but because it was such a production. I was lucky that the Dr. allowed me ice chips after surgery that was a big relief. Haven't had much since surgery some Water, grape juice and about half a cup of chicken broth. A bit sore but liquid Tylenol seems to take care of that. Slept well last night but got up really early for a couple hours then went back to bed for a couple hours up now feeling OK taking a walk around the neighborhood after it warms up a bit.

Does it hurt you to take a deep breath? Mine has subsided some, but every once in a while it still hurts. I am not too worried, but curious. I have been drinking gatorade, Isopure, water, and chicken and beef broths.

Not to much when I breath deep coughing gets me a bit. I have an onboard pain thing that maybe helping me it's called an On Q PainBuster. It's in a fanny pack I wear around my neck or shoulder and delivers meds directly to the incisions. It comes off tomorrow so well see how that goes. Today I had grape juice cut with Water and a cup of beef broth.

I've also taken pills today with no issues one fairly big Levaquin antibiotic. I'd kill for a protien shake though...doc says Clear Liquids only but I'm not really hungry jsut want the texture and taste of the shake.< /p>

I had my first follow up today(one week after surgery). I weighed 388 today. I first saw Dr. Ponce on 3/11/2009 and I weighed 422 then. I am pretty happy so far, but for the first time since surgery I am getting hungry. I need to make it to my first fill before falling off the wagon and letting it back over me.

Good Luck Jimbo and hang in there cmexlr8 - we're pulling for you. Keep us posted on how you deal with the hunger.

I was banded yesterday and everything went well. Since I was over 500 lbs there were some higher risks, but the Doc rocked and I'm feeling pretty good today. I haven't had any nausea and the only thing bothering me is the sharp pain in the shoulder from the gas.

For those who aren't squeemish they took a picture of the band during the surgery and it can be seen at:

I look forward to reading about how y'all are doing.

Cheers!

Steve

Hey, thanks for posting that pic. I thought about what it looked like in there. I was tempted to ask my doc if they routinely take pics or video and if I could see them. I may ask that next time I am up at the office.

Its also good to see someone with plenty to lose like me. Keep posting - the men's room seems to get slow at times.

I had my surgery April 10th. So far so good. As far as last meal...just don't go overboard, you pay for it by being even hungrier the next morning! Good luck and Hi to all April 09 Bandsters!

Thanks for the good wishes and photo, Steve.

I'm on my 4th full day of liquids and I've been able to fight off the cravings.

I've been walking almost every day during lunch. I walk at a pretty good pace for 30 mins, then come back to my office to "eat".

1 1/2 weeks until surgery and I'm ready for it to be here. I'm also anxious to see how much I've lost during the pre-op diet.

Everyone take care and have a great weekend!

I'm doing well not much pain but not much energy either. I'm on Clear Liquids until at least 4/21 when I have my followup appointment. We've had cool and gray days till yesterday and today so walking outside hasn't been motivational till yesterday. I'm starting to feel hungry but for now doing pretty good living on SF popcicles, broth, Protein Drink and sf Jello.< /p>

Mystro - I'd love to have the pre-diet now although I know I wouldn't be able to eat any of it. Good Luck.

I played poker with some buddies last night 3 days after getting banded and had my Jello and Protein drink while they had pizza and beer. They were very supportive and I wasn't having pizza envy.

The shoulder pain from the gas is mostly gone. I spent Thursday night burping and farting all night long and finally got most of that out of me. I'm surprised my wife didn't move to the couch!

So others have deemed April '09 bandsters as April bunnies. A bunny is a rabbit, a male rabbit is a buck. I vte for calling ourselves the April Bucks, anyone else...lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
