April Bandsters, anyone?

Recommended Posts

I had my first visit early March and was approved by insurance. Just visited the surgeon today. Having the surgery April 2nd. It's all going so fast... I'm excited to get things on the road. I'm having a hard time with the pre-op diet. My surgeon is not too strict... wants me to cut back on Fat, Carbs, and Sugar. I haven't had a Lot of food, but can't say I've been perfect. It's time to buckle down... but can't get the thought of the 'last real meal' out of my mind. :tt1:

I will be banded April 16th by Dr. Kowalski, Philadelphia, PA. I will start an all-slimfast diet on April 2nd. Currently 310lbs. I have been gearing myself up for the diet gradually. I had been having the "last meal" thoughts and indulged in a few, but I am actually looking forward to starting the diet and giving my weight-loss a running start. I have also tried to experiment with shake recipies to male them a bit more palatable. Good luck all.

Hi all, I too have been thinking of that last meal, in fact my wife asked me about it. I find for the last few weeks I have been indulging in foods I do not usually eat, (At least with out a lot of guilt) but I find I am not eating too much. In fact I went for my pre-op dr visit and had lost 3 lbs. The Dr. Mentioned about high proteene diet, nothing about shakes etc. I am well versed in them as my last diet attempt was a modified liquid diet. I lost weight than with out even eating much it came back on.

I go for my Hospital pre-op a week before so they might mention it. I do plan to start eating mostly the liquid diet next week. Do want them to have lots of room so they don't have to put in additional ports when the operate.

My surgery is scheduled for April 10th and I too have been dealing with last meal syndrome. I was kind of shocked to step on the scale today and see I still lost a pound. I'm set tomorrrow to start a diet my surgeon gave me during inital consultation I'm going to do that for a week then Meal Replacements for 2 meals and one low fat low carb meal (I hope). Then to Clear Liquids Wed and Thur before my surgery on Friday 4/10. Good luck guys:thumbup:

I am starting my two-week SlimFast only diet tomorrow. Last night I had a big dinner at a BBQ restaurant and I had a big burger for lunch with a few friends from work. I don't have anything planned for tonight. I am going to behave on my diet and not allow myself to cheat so I can start off on the right foot.

I had the surgery Thursday Morning. Went very well. It is true about NOT being hungry after the surgery. This is the end of my 48 hour clear liquid diet. Next will be thicker liquids. Not much pain. Must take it easy, though. Today got a bit of nausea. Took some medication they gave me. It works.

Hi all April Bandsters, Well I am back, since my last note I have had an upper respotory infection, so have not even felt like eating too much. Steped on the scale yeasterday and had lost 5lbs. Monday I am scheduled for my hospital pre-op. Surgery is April 17th so I hope I will be well enough. Taking antibiodics since monday and still running a low grade temp. But have a few days untill pre-op. Part of me wants to eat that last supper but at this point I am really not hungry so have been eating "Well" to try and get over this as fast as possible. Well more later

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
