hi pezo

yes i did gain after surgery. it had to do with Water retention, swelling, etc

dont worry...i found staying away from the scale initially a good thing since it was making me crazy.

i always felt if i didnt eat a meal i should lose 10 lbs (of course i am exaggerating)

for the first 2 weeks i focused on getting back on my feet. the 3 main things my doctor stressed:

1. walk, walk, walk

2. do breathing exercises.

3. drink plenty of water.

hope this helps....

you will lose it when you start to use the band properly, remember 6 weeks is for healing & any weight loss in that time is a bonus

good luck & congrats on your new band

It's all Fluid from the operation. Don't get worried about it. Whenever someone has surgery on their abdominal organs, they swell and retain fluid (it can be alot). This may continue for 2-5 days after surgery. Then all of the sudden you are running to the bathroom every hour. This is just the way the body works. Right now it is important for you to drink lots of fluid (don't worry your body needs it to recover) and try to get in 60-80 grams of Protein. It can be hard getting that much protien in but aim for it. Like the previous poster said...this is a time for healing, your weight loss will really start a month to 6 weeks after your procedure. Stick with the diet recommendations your surgeon gave you. Right now you are probably on liquids. All of this is to not stress your body out.

Don't worry it will work out:thumbup:

It's from the gas they use to blow your insides up with to do your surgery laproscopically. Give yourself a week you will see the scale go down. Mine went up 10 lbs and it looked like I was pregnant from all the air in me.

Even if you don't feel puffy on the outside, your insides are swollen and that Fluid weighs a lot. Your body is also in shock from the surgery and is holding on to every calorie it gets so it's normal to not lose right at first even with extremely low calories. It's hard to be patient cause you want the loss to start, but give yourself some time to heal and I promise you will start to shrink before your eyes :huh2:

During my post op phase I went to GNC and stocked up on Isopure. It is a clear Protein Drink and each bottle contains 54 grams of Protein. I would pour that in a glass with ice and sip on that all day. GNC also carries a small protein "shot" like drink that is high in protein. They are very family with bariatric surgery patients and if you ask them, they will show you different kinds of ways to get in that extra protein during your liquids and mushie phases.

Pezo:

I can totally relate. I didn't expect this to happen and even wrote an e-mail to my surgeon asking what the heck! He told me then it was probably Fluid retention and to relax. It was fluid. On the sixth day after surgery I started peeing like crazy and lost all that plus more.

So, please give it a few days and you'll probably be fine.

Best wishes to you.

Sue

I didn't get onto a scale for a week after surgery. I did drop a lot of weight in the beginning but you are retaining a lot of Water and your body is in preservation mode. Just relax and take care of yourself...it'll come off. Get lots of rest and lots of liquids.

Pezo...ask your other questions in a new thread because I think that people are missing them.

For me I did not eat Jello so I could not tell you how much. I drank broth and put it in a 3 oz dixie cup. I started with half a dixie cup every 15 minutes because I was very tight and over the next few days I added more.

Oh, and I gained about 8 pounds after surgery. It came off fast though. It is swelling and the fluids.

Good luck.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
