new - considering band

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm considering lap band probably in LA would be the closest. I will probably self pay because insurance co's are the devil! My BMI is ONLY (ha! ha!) 36! I have been looking at web sites for Dr. Oliak in Orange and he seems really good. I am inspired and encouraged by all of your posts...thanks!

Good luck! I was in the same situation. My BMI was about 36. I was self-pay. I have lost about 50 lb. so far. I don't regret doing it at all!

Hey,

I am also in the same boat with self-pay. I see Dr. Oliak on Friday to get things going.

Venus, thanks for your reply...50 pounds is great!!! And its great to hear you think its worth it to have self payed. I know everyone asks the same stuff but in how much time did you lose that?

Well good luck and let me know how you like him and his staff. Their web site and the girl on the phone seemed good, I like the fact that he puts his complications stats right there for you.

I had my surgery back on Sept. 4, 2008. I have not been as diligent about exercising as I should, so I have lost it slower than if I would have exercised like I should have. I have been trying to do more lately to get to my goal. Good luck!!

Venus, I think you're doing great...I don't know about the band, but for regular weight loss slower is better because its more of a lifestyle change and you're more likely to keep it off! At this point I'd give just about anything to have your ticker...going to the seminar and doc appt. next thursday. Its funny but I really cant wait! Cali

Thanks. When I decided to do it, I had surgery within two weeks of my consult. I agree that it is best to lose weight slowly. I have enjoyed myself along the way. Good luck! I am sure you will do great.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
