When did you actually feel Restriction with your Fill?

Recommended Posts

It was also very frustrating for me during those early fills--it just seemed like I would never get there. But trust that you will--it takes most people like 4 fills to get to the proper restriction, although some get there earlier. It is a shame that your doctor only does fills on Wednesday. I had the opposite problem, where my band got too tight and I needed an unfill. My doctor and his assistant are terrific about getting you in right away to get you comfortable. He even gave me an unfill between surgeries! Trust me, you think you are not happy because you aren't restricted yet, if you become too tight it is an awful experience. So just be patient and sneak up on that proper restriction--you will get there eventually. And I hope that if you become too restricted that your doctor would give you an unfill right away, and not wait a whole week until his normal Wednesday. Best of luck to you--you will get there, I promise!!

Question though...were you losing weight during the early fills? I have stayed the same weight for two months now. Going for my fourth next week

I just re read your prior post where you said you lost most of your weight prior and just after surgery. If I am not being too nosey may I ask how much you lost before you got to your good restriction spot? And then once there does weight come off faster? Also does your metabolism slow down with the lesser food amount?

I finally know what "restriction" is - I just had my 3rd fill. I was banded 11/5/08 and lost quite a bit of weight right after the surgery. After my 1st fill - I felt like I didn't have any restriction. After my 2nd fill - I had some restriction but could still eat quite a bit. Just had my 3rd fill on Wednesday and I am definitely restricted. From past experience, the band will loosen up - but I now eat three bites of scrambled eggs and I'm full - its great!!! I'm down 64 pounds since the surgery - good luck to you!

What is the "sweet spot'. I've heard this phrase quite a bit. What do people mean by that? Also, what is a "pb"?

I haven't had a fill yet (banded on 4/1/09) but my surgeon told me that the first 2-3 cc's of fill actually only fills the tubing and not the band itself. He says he does it that way to acclimate his patients to the "fill process".

I was banded on Sept 2, 2008 and didn't feel great restriction until my 3rd fill on December 2, 2008 which took me to 4.8 cc's in a 10 cc band. I haven't had to have another fill since then and I'm still losing weight.

Hello All!!

I had a fill yesterday so now i have 8cc in 14cc band..

Honestly I am not thrilled about this..I bascially saw the doctors office 2 weeks ago & I maintained my weight..

With that said I will have to try harder..I am not disappointed just not happy about the situation either...

One day at a time I guess

I had my fourth fill today and am hoping this will do the trick. The doctor said that my stomach came up thru the band a little so I am to eat six very small meals a day for the next month. I am hoping this will restart my weight loss. I had felt some restriction with the third fill but not enough and the weight loss wasnt happening.

Finally, a conversation I was looking for. I was banded in June 2008, had my first fill in September, then because of insurance copay, I couldn't get my second one until February. I had my third fill 2 weeks ago. I lost 25 pounds in the two weeks after surgery, and I'm only up to 36 pounds now, which keeps bouncing around between 29 pounds and 36 pounds, I can't seem to break the low barrier. I felt a little bit of restriction for a few days after the first fill. After the second fill, I had a some restriction (not great but I was eating a little less) for about 3 weeks. Then it all just went away and I can eat just as much now as before the surgery. My third fill did absolutely nothing. Right now I have 4ccs in either a 10 or 14 cc band (my doctor wasn't even sure which one).

I have to remember that just because I've had my band for 10 months that it's comparable to others that are 10 months out. I've had the same number fills as someone about 3-4 months out. I talked to the director of my program though and she said in 2 more weeks I can schedule another fill, so my next one won't be for at least 4-5 weeks from now. It's frustrating to go through this surgery just to be hungry all the time.

Hello married

How did ur doctor know that ur stomach was coming thru the band?? I am just curious???!!!!

Well he made me swallow barium and he looks at it with an xray machine. I guess they can see it. I was not feeling the restriction that I thought i should have and not losing weight so they took a second look and I guess that is a sign of a possible problem. So hopefully this will work itself out. If not i have to have another operation.

I had a fill of 1.8 and was banded almost 3 years ago. I hadn't been feeling any restriction, but when I went to get more yesterday I now have 2.5cc. My doctor says that 4cc is the most the band will hold?? I have been reading about people with fills over 6cc. Not sure what band I have.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
